Looking to get my first audio setup

Lol. Too much salesman fluff in there. My bullshit-o-meter pegged high :stuck_out_tongue: but give me a minute to learn about them I’ll tell you how I feel

to be fair I think the 58x is prob the best direction due to them being cheaper and probable having better QA. But my 2019 edition of the HE-400i have had no QA issues and sound great to me, I still use the to pay R6 over my Argons from time to time still haven’t figured out witch has better sound location identification.

just a note that z review is 4 years old and there have been 3 revisions of those headphones released since then. So you may want to look for new reviews of them like 2018 or newer.

I mean I just think from what he describes he would enjoy the sound of the 58x more, but honestly he could buy a 400i from amazon and just return them if he didn’t like them (but doing that with the 58x would be higher risk). The 400i is pretty different suiting different tastes and preferences

out of curiosity I checked and they measure similarly, the 400i are more bright tho https://www.rtings.com/headphones/1-3-1/graph#353/3161/891

They def don’t sound similar tho lol, they sound pretty different in practice

The 400i looks like a higher quality. I came in to this originally looking at a similarly priced headphone (Dt880s) but I now know it probably has more Treble than I want

Honestly, I think the 400i, 58x, and 880 250 ohm are at a similar quality level, you just pick the one that suits your preferences more

That makes it so much harder…

looks can be deceiving. yes I feel as tho my pair is indestructible, but hifiman is not known for build quality.

You must be the first person in history to say that about a hifiman product lolololol

They are just fine, their older products were a bit shaky qc wise, but the 400i has been tried and tested so I don’t think you would have any problem if you decided to go with them imo. I would still rate the “likeliness of this thing breaking” lower on the 58x, but I think both are at the point where you really wouldn’t have to worry about it

there like wearing a stick of TNT. sounds cool, but can come apart from what I have been told by others. But I have only had my pair for 4 months or so and I am careful with my expensive stuff.

I treat my things nicely too. Are the drop he4xx the same? Or a crappy version?

They have a different headband, and have a tad bit of rolloff in the bass but otherwise sound super similar.

Actually, why not both? Just grab a 58x AND a 4xx. Experience both. Have fun with both. You really can’t go wrong then :+1:

I have been told they are the same headphone but with different headband

Pretty much yeah lol

Lmao…looks like the 400i on Amazon is a totally different revision than any review I can find without digging too much. I don’t think I can possibly justify 2 pairs of headphones right now…
