I recently bought the M1060c and I really like the sound that they produce. But I have to admit that these headphones are on the heavy side and that comfort strap is definitely not a comfort strap. So my question is about replacing the 1060c’s. What would be a planar headphone that would have a similar sound signature as the 1060c. Ive done a lot of looking around and have seen reviews of the Sendy Aiva, the Blon B20, or even the Theiaudio Phantom. I understand that these headphone come in all different prices and sound signatures. But if anyone would give some insight on a planar headphone that would be a good replacement for the M1060c i would appreciate the feed back. Also I was even thinking about the HiFiman edition xx. I listened to those at RMAF 2019 when Zeos brought them. Any feed back on those as well would be appreciated.
What price range are you thinking, and what amp do you have? Also what did you like about the 1060c and what would you want to change about it?
I dont mind the price increase of they were in the edition xx / sendy range. I’ll save up for that and i have the Schiit Magni at the moment and ill get the Modi in the future. I was even wondering if any of the Mk3 T50rp or the T20rp wouls be a good direction.
from what i did like about the 1060c was the diffence the sound signature made from a dynamic driver to a planar one. there were al lot more highs, mids, and lows that just felt more active.
Personally I would say no, generally that would be pretty different from a m1060 tbh, would be a lot more like a dynamic headphone tbh, I would hesitate to really say those resemble a larger planar
Generally I’m not a fan of any of these headphones lol, imo the sendy and blon are interesting, with a focus on aggressive treble, but lackluster midrange and bass roll off that’s honestly a bit disappointing, also spatial recreation is pretty meh. Regarding the phantom, stock I did not like them at all, modded they were a bit better, but honestly I prob couldn’t really recommend them anymore tbh. Generally in the same price range if you are after something neutral but enjoyable the sundara is pretty refined for the range imo, does most things very well, generally an upgrade to a m1060c imo. If you wanted something a bit warmer and more punchy tilting, the verum 1 is solid imo (but my preference leans slightly towards the sundara)
Gotcha. If you liked the edition xx, that’s a very solid option, lots of impact and speed, unique large presentation, and slightly warmer smoother leaning so not as fatiguing. You might also potentially like an audeze lcd 2 imo, that would be pretty nice for something slightly warmer leaning and very refined and organic sounding. The aeon 2 open is pretty solid for a neutral and refined planar that’s honestly really comfy too lol
i listened to the edition xx and i was really surprised by it. even so by how light and comfy they were to wear. i have been interested with the aeon from the drop site. they seem to be very comfortable and have the sound signature i like. which that would be the fun low end of different music and games. even the argons were something i thought about but im sure those would be on back order for forever.
They are surprisingly comfy imo, sound pretty good as well, would be worthwhile to consider for sure
Would also be a pretty solid choice imo
Personally for me those were interesting but not something I would want as my only headphone, they are wide and do have a fair amount of bass prominence, but the width doesn’t feel natural or have much dimension, and the bass has lots of prominence but not much slam imo
with the headphones that i currently own. of course the M1060c, the Phillips 9500, beyerdynamic dt770, and the hifiman he 4xx. so i suppose i have a somewhat different ranges of sound in headphones. i suppose i just kept looking for something close to what i heard at RMAF.
What were the favorite things you heard at rmaf?
the vakyl erupts, the kliptsh hp 3, and the edition xx what got may attention the most
The edition xx might make the most sense here then imo if you are looking at a planar
possibly so, just getting to that price point will take some time, but achievable.
Gotcha, if you keep your eye out on these, you can sometimes find them in the 400 ish range, right now there is one for bidding currently at 390 on ebay, but you can sometimes find them pop up on avx or headfi for a good price. I would say they are worth waiting for imo, they would be a noticeable step up from the 1060 and other of the more entry/midrange options
maybe one more thought. ive loved the 9500 and how they feel for comfort. all the others ive mentioned that i own have been decent for comfort but these 9500 have been the best. i guess thats why the 1060c kinda makes me go away from them due to weight and the strap. im a gamer and the PC side is new to me since i recently build my first pc. as so this whole audio would has opened up more since. such as wanting different ear pads for the HE 4xx. needing actual power for the DT 770. the 1060c im sure ill not keep much longer and return them. but thanks for the advice on what could be in the type of headphone that could fit what i like most.
If you can swing it the Aeon RT is a darn good contender for what you are looking for. Light, comfy, well built, not lacking in bass or mids, little rolled off on treble and sound pretty good on a magni. They are definitely my go to headphone right now when I don’t want to listen to audezes or Blon B20s. Think Nighthawks but without that dark veil and more treble.
