I love Monoprice amps and would definitely give their headphone a try for the right price.
I tried the M1070 recently, probably the biggest downside I can see, if anyone has a modded M1060 or M1060C there really isn’t a strong need for the newer version.
If I had to compare off of memory, the M1060 has more bass and extends a bit lower, but the M1070 has a bit cleaner sound and detail retrieval . Personally Gruntslayer you do not really need to try out the previous model. Only if you are wanting more bass that extends a bit deeper. I would say for the most part the M1070 is overall better and a slightly different tuning.
I just mostly see if as one of the many options around the $300-500 range that could be recommended. It just doesn’t stand out that much from the rest. At $250-280 I think would be the ideal price for it. To me it is not different enough from the 1060 to pay that much of a premium for it.
thats what ive heard. however i did hear that you need to mod the 1060c for that to happen and i would rather get the more capable and resolving one out of the box and then mod if i want. the bass on these with the eq is RUMBLING down to like 25hz or so. (escape from LA- the weekend) like quality 12" sub in the living room , however some bass guitar john mayer songs do feel slightly flat i would say it extends well with an EQ. but yeah i think it is just odd that i heard so much about the 1060 and 1060c and then these came and nothing. there is like 2 reviews on youtube. there is like 1000 videos on the 1060 on youtube with mods and everyone loving them. so it just gave the impression they were totally trash and i was very surprised when i got them how much better they were than the he 4xx which everyone on here LOVES. and so do i for under 200 but for 250 these are a no brainer. however they like juice for that low freq and i dont think 200 milli amps or so are going to cut it. but thanks for explaining that part to me. makes sense. @gallappago
