The Run Down:
- Chinese
- $200 (On sale for less regularly)
- 9.8oz
- proprietary Mounting Footprint
- 2.7” Eye-relief
THIS Is a great little magnifier. However, it is not without its flaws. Given the price that you can usually get these for however, they are a good value. Especially if your unsure about if you are going to like using a magnifier or not. Or if your just going to use it sparsely. They can be found for less then $200 quite often, but if you really want one its regular price is more then acceptable. As long as you are aware of a few quirks in its design, and with Holosun overall.
The mount is a bit flimsy and is a proprietary foot print. Meaning that you wont be able to mount the optic to a standard 2 bolt mount. Fortunately you Can now buy some aftermarket solutions. For example the Unity FAST mount has a option for this magnifier. The biggest thing is, is that you will be paying significantly more for the mount then you would the optic. Build quality of the optic itself is acceptable, again for its price point. Its biggest benefits are its large eye-relief at 2.7”. It also has a large view looking through it, and the glass is quite good. Holosun’s warranty hasnt been as streamlined as many of its competitors as well. Some people have waited months to get their products replaced or repaired. This was from people I know who had issues with varying products from them awhile ago. Hopefully things have changed in that department.
Overall its a great option for those on a budget, or you dont want to spend a fortune to test the theory out on if a magnifier setup will work for you.
If your looking to invest a touch more money, or want a smaller lighter 3x magnifier, Id reccomend the Trijicon 3x (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiq9FvmdvkU) (https://rebrand.ly/xdsjtls). Its a solid little package, and it uses a standard 2 bolt mount, the one I had was made in the Phillipines, and its optical performance is great. Albeit with a touch of fish eye. But given the size and weight, I would be willing to accept that.
ALSO! Dont waste your time of money with the ‘T’ version of the Hm3x. Its smaller, but not that much lighter. It still has all of the negatives with the standard magnifier. But it costs a lot more, and has worse optical performance.
