I just realized that Drop charged me taxes today, that is all.
I thought they always charged taxes depending on the item
Nope, just went in and checked all my previous orders. I have paid for shipping and handling but never tax on a single order. There were a whole bunch to verify against.
Depends on what state your in.
They’ve always charged me taxes, but so does everyone else.
The good ol’ days are over. I’ve noticed I’m getting taxed like crazy lately on many sites.
Sales tax is dependent on state. Some until recently did not require taxes be charged for online purchases. It might have changed in your state, or Drop decided to play it safe and charge tax everywhere anyway.
EDIT: Some states also now require taxes on subscriptions. This changed in my state a year or two ago.
Yeah, more and more taxes lol. If my friends start taxing me when I buy stuff from them I wouldn’t be surprised lol
Ebay recently charging taxes too. The out of state loophole is no longer applicable it seems.
I used to not get charged taxes on Amazon. Now its taxes all the time. salad days are over
I’ll put a tenner on that they aren’t sending this to the IRS…
Well that’s a safe bet since they’re State taxes.
You guys tax each other inter-state?
All purchase tax in the US is State tax. It varies from 0% to about 9% by state.
There used to be a loophole where online purchases from out of State retailers meant you didn’t pay tax in either State.
More recently States have been changing the law, so taxes are collected in the State the purchaser resides.
bastards

As a foreigner who buys a decent amount of stuff from various online stores in the US and ships it home via a cargo forwarder, it’s mildly annoying that the cargo forwarders that send to my country have their shipping locations in California, so hello 10% sales tax.
That ain’t even bad…
As a consumer goods standard we have is 24%. Let that sink in a bit.
I wonder why so many goods are ordered from abroad… wonder why… why…
Don’t Americans get charged import tax duty on items coming from overseas?
I think we are now living in a day and age where things are easily track able by computer systems that its now very difficult to avoid taxes on anything. Companies like ebay are now being pushed to do this or face corporate fines
Yeah there is import duty but it’s nowhere near as high as some Euro countries
Well… Except China
True lol, for most products that is
