D10 works without drivers on a Mac though I’ve yet to get a Mac to output more than 44.1.
I prefer the SDAC, but I could live with either.
Though I do prefer the form factor of the D10 and the optical out is a nice to have.
True, both are pretty great and it’s hard to really go wrong with either (if you are using usb that is)
Considering I’m using this for the Eddie Current ZDT Jr. is there much difference between the two dacs?
Not really imo, they both sound great, if I had to say, the topping d10 might be a tad bit more analytical and the sdac is a bit more even sounding but less revealing imo

i had the grace balaced dac which i think is the same as the regular sdac. i didnt like it, it sounded bad on some tracks, not sure if it was coloring or what. i havnt heard the topping d10
Cheaper DAC’s all more or less just use the reference designs from the DAC manufacturers.
So it’s really just AK DAC vs ES DAC, they do sound marginally different.
Which is the overall better dac chip? Flagship AK or flagship ES?
It depends on the implantation, so there really isn’t a good way to compare sound wise
I understand. I heard Paul from PS audio say its not so much about the dac chip but more the power and analog stage that makes for a better sound. Shitty implementation with a good dac wount make for a good sound. If I understood him correctly

Correct for the most part. You can have a subpar dac chip with excellent implementation and overall dac design sound great compared to a higher tier chip with subpar implementation and overall design. Having a decent dac chip is important, but if you have a decent chip the implementation decides the overall sound
