This was Russell’s first FAST match in WV. It promised to be hard in a multitude of ways. And it sure was! There was physically demanding objectives (mostly running), a LOT of shooting with both rifle and pistol, and even tho it wasnt planned, the weather was wild. Felt like 100*f, high humidity, and relentless sun. It made for a real unique experience. One that I wont soon forget.
My take away’s are this. Despite the 6 minute par time’s on each stage, they didnt feel too long. There was plenty to do on each stage, enough to keep your mind on shooting and not on the clock. Nothing felt bloated, everything felt balanced. I shot Friday all day, from roughly 0800 to 2100 and it was the way to do it IMO. Spreading it out across 2 days would of worked fine with larger squads. but being capped at only 6 made it very feasible. That is one thing that Russ plans on doing for future matches is keeping the squads at a smaller size to keep things moving.
I dont know what I would have done to ‘improve’ it. Im really looking forward to the next series of matches! Especially the Rifle only match that hes planning. That has massive potential to be awesome!
