I did, after seeing in the other thread how naked my desk was and seeing all those other pics with LPâs.
I am already invested into the Hart Audio eco system so all I had to do was order an IC-3 4-Pin XLR interconnect, which I did prior to heading over to the Monoprice site.
I also ordered the 4.4mm to XLR cable you had linked in one of your posts for using the ZenDac - âI found Zen with Schiitâ I think it was, along with an XLR switch box and interconnects to run from the Modius to switch, and switch to Liquid Platinum.
Your write-ups and posts were informative and pretty detailed. They helped me determine a bill of materials needed to integrate the LP into my setup.
Still would like a Bifrost 2 - thatâs going to have to wait for my wallet to cool down
Tomorrow is the targeted delivery date for my MLP. I downloaded the manual and have read through it several times, but I didnât see any guidance for installing the tubes, and Iâve read on the webs that tube installation can be finicky. Any advice / cautions for unboxing and initial setup of the LP?
Also, how long should I let it acclimate to my in-home environment? The amp for my ham radio gear with a A Svetlana 4CX800A (GU74B) high-performance ceramic/metal tetrode, I let that sit for a good 24-36 hours before plugging it in.
I can only go with what I experienced when I purchased mine, which was late Spring early summer. Got it early afternoon but did not hook up until the following morning. (around 12hrs) As for the tubes I just carefully lined them up then tapped them in with a hammerâŚ(LOL!!) NO! just kidding⌠carefully lined up and with steady pressure pushed them in to the sockets⌠Had zero problems and still donât⌠Great Amp with buttloads of power !!
I second @Jetman. Probably smart to unbox it and let it sit for a couple hours to get back to room temperature (assuming itâs cold wherever you are). Outside of that there are no tricks. The tubes only fit in one way which will be pretty obvious when you see how the pins are aligned. They will fit in tightly but they will go in. A small magnitude rocking motion will help them slide in too. Then, the stock Electro-Harmonix tubes need about 12-18 hours of being powered on before they really start to sound like themselves. Tube burn-in is a downside here but gotta get through it.
Just a general advice blurb:
When it is much colder outside than inside (winter here makes that an easy 15 - 20°C delta), I let electronics sit in their box over night.
Anything that does not care about surface moisture, I just take out and let sit while reading manual/inspecting for defects.
There was only one left when I ordered. However, there were others but longer (1m in length)
Ultimately, I am going to check with @brux (Hart Audio cables) to see if they can make me a set but, Iâm waiting to see how the gear arrangement on my desk goes first, so I know what lengths I need.
Unfortunately I need Female XLR to 4.4 which seems to be a rare beast. I did come across this one, but the wait could be 8 weeks. So itâs DIY a male xlr cable or off to Hart we go.
It was a long day⌠FedEx dropped off the LP this morning @ 10am but my interconnects did not arrive until 7:40PM but, arrive they did and I was able to get it set up. Let the burn in begin!
This amp makes me want to reverse engineer it and build it out of discrete components and with a beefy LPS. Because I love it and canât help but wonder what it would be like if it was built by Cavalli without budget restraints.
Thatâs basically the original cavalli liquid crimson. If you keep your eye out and be quick sometimes you see them pop up, but they go real fast lol. There was a liquid gold that came up used fairly recently, but @Polygonhell snagged it iirc
