Likely better than the default adapter.
One thing to check is diameter of the barrel jack in the Liquid Platinum.
The PSU you linked is for 5.6mm diameter, which is a pretty common size for barrel jacks.

so @Hazi59 shared the picture of his power supply and if I googled it correctly it was this one
https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/cincon-electronics-co-ltd/TRH50A360-01E03-VI/12168169
it has plug Barrel Plug R/A, 2.1mm I.D. x 5.5mm O.D. x 12.0mm
compared to what I found
OD 5.5mm; ID 2.1mm; length 11mm;
it is 1mm longer if I got it correctly but I guess this should be ok?
I would not worry about it. As long as the diameters fit, it works.
Canât you exchange for a new unit (I mean the entire amp not just PSU)?
Yes I could. But the thing is I am in Europe and shipping back to us and waiting for another unit is something I want to avoid. Plus I am not sure how it works with customs in those cases. It is just ridiculous that they ship unit with different power supply, donât even sell replacement and tell you to buy from amazon something but donât give you details. This is not good customer experience and I had less issues with chifi tbh so far.
Yeah thatâs pretty shitty
Liquid Platinum or Cayin HA-1A MK2 ?
If single ended only, Cayin. If balanced only MLP.
I would also say higher impedance headphones should go with the Cayin too defacto.
multiple heavy hitters in here told me to try MLP.
Honestly there isnât a wrong answer here.
If youâre going to use for Planars and low impedance headphones, itâs possible the MLP is a better option. From what @WaveTheory was saying, Cayin HA-1A can be hit or miss with this kind of headphones.
Like said, you probably canât go wrong with either. Although the MLP is cheaper, at least in the US.
As @fabiokelm and @DagoRed are saying, MLP vs. 1AMK2 comes down to which headphones youâre using. MLP is âlimitedâ by the fact that its balanced HP output is far superior to its SE output (makes very little difference if you use its balanced or SE inputs). If your headphone collection has multiple SE-wired cans, itâs out. The Cayin (tubes in general) work best with higher impedance headphones. The 1AMK2 is selective with low-impedance cans. Some work ok, some donât. The planars that work with the Cayin tend to be hard to drive. That may not be universal but itâs at least a starting point. So if your headphone collection has lots of low-impedance cans and/or planars, Cayin is probably out. If your HP collection has lots of headphones that are SE-wired and low impedance - first off, congrats, that combo isnât easy to have lots of models of - then you might want to look at Lake People G111, Neve RNHP, Rebelamp, or Schiit Lyr 3 if tubes are the point.
@MazeFrame
Any risk using barrel plug reduction? I bought power supply with 2.1mm ID but it seems like that amp has 2.5mm
It isnât stated anywhere on monoprice page as far as I know
As in putting an adapter to make it work correctly?
Should not be a problem.
Yes exactly just to get correct barrel plug size on that power supply.
Cool thanks
He keeps referring to it as a tube amp. As a supposedly knowledgeable reviewer he should know what a hybrid is and what that means in terms of both power output and effect on sound. So his expectations and comparisons donât make sense. Comparing it a DV? Completely different animal in so many ways. I donât mind opinions (good or bad) but if youâre going to pretend to know what youâre talking about, you should at least understand the basics. Time to unsubscribe from his channel.
I got a little frustrated at this too. The MLP isnât a tube amp, itâs a hybrid. I agree that Joshâs characterization of it as a tube amp set him up with unrealistic expectations. I still like Josh. Hopefully he learns.
My main problem is a philosophical one - if youâre going to be a figure of authority, you better be competent on the subject.
Could also be a reviewer that fucks up and then owns up to that.
