I havent seen it for under 400. For $300, I would have to really consider itā¦
Just depends on sales and the like as well as other people who are selling. The regular price they seem to go are $400 be patient with it and youāll find one.
Just picked up a pair of the new Russian Genelex Gold Lyons. platinum matched gold pins. Iāve come to find that quality vintage 6922 tubes are pay through the nose stupid expensive when compared to the 12au7 tubes I had for the xDuoo TA-20.
Didnāt know the age or the state of the stock tubes it came with so figured Iād give them a try and keep the old stock Electrodynamics as emergency backup. Everything Iāve read says the new Gold Lyons are a little better in every way when compared. Letās see.
I believe the new production Gnelex, like the PSVane require a LOT of burn in upwards of 150 Hours to settle, and they change sound a LOT in that period.
Thank you for the headās up. Will keep that in mind.
I almost bought them, curious as wellā¦ I ended up getting some Sylvania D-Getters and am very happy!
I bought some Amperexās but didnāt get anything out of them. Of course I only had them in for about one day.
Just curious about options for down the road.
It wasnāt a big change, but it is fun to roll tubes! I love the amp with the tubes it came with as well
Anyone know if theres some tubes for the LP that can increase and smooth out treble? Looking to brighten up my aeons a little more.
From what little I know, I think the Genelex Gold Lions you can find on Amazon in matched pairs are brighter, but donāt hold me to it. Upscale Audio has some helpful descriptions but I havenāt dealt with them. Tubemonger has a good rep. I got all my info off of Head-fi in their Lyr tube-rolling thread and LP tube thread.
From the 6 hours or so I have on the Genelex Gold Lions (this was a platinum matched pair) They are THICC gooey and held back in the high end a lot. I will leave them on all night and give them a lot of use over the next few days to see how they settle in.
Iād say any power hungry planars or biodynamics that can make use of the extra power. In addition to whatās already been mentioned lcd2-4, most zmfs (i like my eikon on the mlp),and the more expensive hifiman planars
30 hours or so into the Gold Lions on the LP, thick, gooey and a very veiled top end. Is it me ? Do I have to give them more time? I know burn in can change, but this is down roughly 25% on the top and about 20% up on the low end.
Spoke to the seller and he said that he wouldnāt expect them to be that way at all off the gate, that they do change with burn in but what Iām describing does not sound as expected. He has no experience with the Liquid Platinum though.
Thoughts? Next steps? Iāve reseated the tubes to no effect and putting back the original Elector Harmonix everything sounds as it should.
Give them at least 72 hours, if they are like the PSVane they sound OK then crap, then slowly open back up. I think they continue to change beyond that point up to perhaps 150 hours or so.
With valves this is an entirely measurable phenomenon, the trans conductance increases for the first 100 or 200 hours then, slowly decreases over the lifetime of the tube.
Following back up on this response from @Polygonhell āif they are like the PSVane they sound OK then crap, then slowly open back up.ā
This is gospel. If you buy the Gold Lion tubes for the amp, so be ready to go through the process. It was leagues improved by the 60 hour or so mark and then very slight improvement from there, seemingly settled by 75~80 hours.
That being said, Iām enjoying the hell out of the Liquid Platinum. Bought it used through ebay and paid appx $450 with tax and shipping so it was fair priced, not great but the amp at least was in immaculately clean condition.
I stepped into this as an upgrade from the TA-20. A good am in its own right but clearly not at the same level as the LP. For my upgrade trouble$, Iāve wound up with an amp that is very stagey and can push a lot more authoritative power, a power you can feel versus the TA-20. Itās detailed enough and tubey, but the tube warmth did improve with the Gold Lions over the stock Electro Harmonix, so again a worthwhile upgrade with the tubes.
The only disadvantage when compared to the TA-20 is the tube pricing. 12AU7 tubes are downright cheap by comparison to the 6922, triple more so when you talk vintage tubes.
Overall very satisfied with this jump, looking forward to putting it to its intended use when my Eikons finally get here some day.
Sorry if this is off-topic but Iāve been looking into getting an LP for a while now.
Iād like to know what a good price for new or used would be. Itās $550 at monoprice directly currently but Iāve heard itās been $500 before.
What would be a good (albeit maybe not the greatest of all time) used price?
Thank you in advanced.
I paid $599.00 a few months ago and have no regrets. Except that the price kept dropping.
I think $549.00 is a good price, but $500.00 would be better if you could wait it out.
I would also jump on $350.00 to $400.00, lightly used.
Thank you.
Is the # of hours important when it comes to usage of tubes/hybrid amps? I keep seeing that on used sales. All I have tube related is a Loxjie P20 that I got for trying out tubes.
Tubes do wear out, but they are easy to replace, and last usually 5000+ hours of active use.
