Anybody using this amp with Aeon 2 Open, or Focal Elex/Elegia? Curious what is a good recommendation on tubes for those headphones with this amp.
I used mine extensively with the Elex, and very much like the pairing.
Iāve not rolled tubes in mine, they arenāt the cheapest tubes to roll because they are commonly used in audio gear, but the stock EH tubes are actually pretty good for new production.
I LOVE the Elexās with this amp. I also just discovered a Great partner for this amp: Senn HD660ās, balanced.
Wow, talk about a strong bass line! I think it is even better than my Violectric (which has been dominating lately), via SE.
I did buy some Amperex tubes but havenāt really used them yet. I am loving the stock tubes.
I used an LP with the aeon open x. From what I recall it was quite a good pairing.
Thank you all, I think Iām gonna go for it. I have 6xx, elex, elegia, aeon 2 open on my higher-ish end.
Do you guys have issues with the pot knob? should I use something that can pre-amp with sound knob to control the pre-volume?
I had heard that it goes from low to āyou just went deafā within a micron of movement on the pot knob at a specific level, so I was debating on using something like the SMSL M200 to drive it
I currently run the LP as one of my 2 amps, Bifrost 2 as the dac then balanced to the Lp and unbalanced (rca) to my Asgard 3ā¦ Off my LP I run The Aeon2, The Elex, my Hifiman edition x v2, and my Sennheiser 58x all balanced. On my Asgard 3 I run my nighthawks, (and all of these as well ) I do not experience the massive jump in volume that you describeā¦ This thing does have a fuckton of power though. If I am really jamming out so to speak I find about 11:30 on the volume very loud. Normally between 9 and 10 oāclock on the dial is my sweet spot. You will love this amp I am sureā¦
Also I use Hart cables with the interconnect kit which allows me to swap back and forth.
Using my Eikons on a tube amp while reading this - prepare for a feast
I donāt find those volume fluctuations at all. However, if you have any really efficient headphones or use IEMās, you will find that the starting point is VERY low.
I am really enjoying it with Elexās, Sundaraās and, as of today, the Senn HD660ās. It will work with my other stuff, but the volume knob stays between 8:00 and 9:00.
It is clean, clear and powerful. Enjoy!
Ended up ordering new for the warranty, while still on sale. Figured probably better resale value in case I get a dud or damaged unit
Iāve used the Elegia with the Liquid Platinum and it does to the Elegia, what I feel it does with all of my headphones. Ample power, warms it up, spaces it out.
For the Elegia specifically, I doubt I go much past 9 oāclock on the dial.
I got mine at $499 new right around Memorial Day. I am sure you can find some $50 monoprice coupons around or they have regular sales on it.
I have a question, does the LP have RCA out to connect my MM5-R? I tried the ports in the back and, either I donāt know how to get it to work, or my unit is defective because I canāt get any audio out of the >>RCA. I have the unit connected through XLR from balanced DAC. Does the RCA output only work when receiving an RCA input? or am I completely wrong? couldnāt find the information in the manual.
The out is a pass through and not a pre-amp. And if you are using balanced in, it wonāt even do that.
Does the tubes affect the sound with said pass through
thatās what I was wondering.
I believe I remember someone here in HFG saying that it doesnāt.
Not that I know of, but I have never used it.
Weird that the little Liquid Spark actually has a pre-amp.
well thatās a shame. Was looking for a high grade tube buffer athough the Liquid Platinum might kill two birds with one stone.
I also wanted to know in case I had to connect another amp to my LP rcaās.
Guys are there any alternatives for LP worth considering for people in EU? This is way to overpriced here.
Have basically same question for Shiit bifrost.
