I got my used LP here in Europe in an app called Wallapop but if you pay attention you might find one in Headfi, now and then one pops up. The Bifrost 2 right now is very difficult to get because Schiit hasnāt sold any in months due to Covid 19 related parts supply problems.
A good alternative to the Bifrost 2 would be the Denafrips Ares II. Similar price and performance.
The RCA out is only a pass through if you feed it a signal in. As already stated, if you go XLR in, the RCA out does nothing.
It is a fixed out
No tube effect on the RCA out, this amp at the 400ish dollar price range that it can be had now used is a fantastic deal.
Tubes for it are pricey, good tubes for it are even more costly and tubes with great reputation are insanely expensive.
And yeah, very very powerful.
That was weird. I went to Monoprice.eu and they had all their headphones, but only a few cheap amps? No Liquid Platinum, no Liquid Spark and no 788 THX amp. Weird.
Yes for some reason they dont offer their better amps in Europe. I can buy spark for 135eur with like 3 weeks waiting but platinum I found only on one shop for 1100 eur.
I was about to order it from US but they donāt ship to my country so thatās why i am searching for alternatives.
I feel your pain. My Liquid Platinum cost me about $1,050.00, landed, in Canadian $'s.
I got mine used here in Spain two or three months ago for 430 euros. The previous owner paid almost 900 one year ago with import taxes and shipping direct from Monoprice in the US just one year ago.
Yeah that is very nice price. I am still kind of reluctant to buy used gear but I know it is viable and good option to get my hands on it an try. Will have to give it a shot
Iāve bought a Monoprice LP, RNHP, Fostex TH-X00 Ebony and a Audeze Lcd2c, all used in perfect conditions, two locally (Spain) and two items from European headfiers. Iām absolutely happy with all four purchases and when, and if, decide to resell I wonāt be loosin money. Itās a win, win. Just check the history of the seller and pay with PayPal.
Im actually experiencing this just a little after 10am and its driving me nuts. I really like the amp but this is more of a defect than a feature to me. I have to adjust the sound in windows instead which sucks.
I put the smsl m200 at -15.0 to 00.0 and the LP to about 10:30ā11. The volume knob seems to be pretty scratchy when turning. I have the smsl m200 also driving the mm-5r through RCA
Volume is perfect around that area but the difference between Aeon 2 open and Elex is clear. The Aeon 2 open requires me to pump more into the m200, whereas the Elex seems to be easier to drive
Sorry I was responding to an earlier post on Volume fluctuations after 10am to blasting my eardrums. Im getting some xlr cables but i dont think that will make a difference. So I may just be returning the LP sometime early next week.
I am using xlr and thatās what I meant, I havent felt that increase in volume that I was anticipating.
The suggestions I had seen were to use a variable pre-out of sorts like with a dac like the smsl m200 or ifi zen dac. But adjusting volume on windows should work too. what DAC are you using?
At the moment im using a G6 but wait hehe I have the aune x8 at work and my modius should be getting here on Thursday. So i figured I would get some xlr cables for the modius setup and maybe bring the aune home to test things out.
Sadly I returned it. After troubleshooting it with multiple DACs i.e. Modius SE/XLR, Aune X8 and the G6 the LP would shoot from 70sih to like 110% after that 10 mark. I dont see other people complaining about this so maybe it was just that one. I feel like buying it again, maybe i will get lucky and not have the same issue.
Sorry to hear that! So far Iām not minding the volume much, Iām typically around 1 to 2āclock when I wanna hear it louder. It does depend on the song though.
I have a question. Is there a noticeable sound difference if I feed it source from RCA or Balanced. I kind of want to hook this up to my Ifi Micro Black Label and it only has unbalanced out
Yes, but itās not as extreme as the single ended vs balanced out. Generally as long as you use the balanced headphone out you are fine, running RCA sources arenāt going to be as big of a quality drop
So under these circumstances would it be better to get an OTL Tube Headamp like A schiit Lyr?
Didnāt want to clutter up the deals thread, but I have a question regarding dac pairing with the LP.
My plan is to purchase a balanced dac eventually (just purchased the Arya so want to cut down on killing my wallet for the time being). For the time being, is it okay if I hooked up my topping E30 via rca into the rca inputs of the LP, then use the balanced output of the LP to power my Arya? Or will I be limited to the SE output from the LP. Apologies for the noob question.
The lyr is a hybrid amp. I mean I would say perhaps consider a single ended otl depending on what sound you want and what headphones you plan to be driving
