šŸ”¶ Monoprice Monolith M570

Edited :stuck_out_tongue:

But the Argon MK3 is based off the T50RP and it is said that it widens the soundstage of the stock T50RP. And with lambskin pads that reduce bass, shouldnā€™t that make the Argon MK3 ideal for competitive? Have you tried them?

I own a pair of argons, I donā€™t really prefer them for comp gaming compared to others. There are more mods than just pad changes, the driver is dampened and modified, resulting in a different presentation and tuning, for gaming I would rather take stock t50ā€™s with shure pads if I had to choose a t50

Very insightful, M0N, thank you. So out of your whole collection you chose the DT880 600ohm as the best for competitive? (and AD1000x)

I still do not own a fun headphone for single player games. I am looking for good soundstage and imaging and a bass with rumble. This is my shortlist:

  • Fostex TH-900mk2 (red)
  • Ether Flow C
  • Sony Z1R
  • DT1770 pro
  • Sony Z7
  • Sennheiser HD820

Would you pick one?

I mean most of those are fairly overkill for gaming but ok lol. Are you looking for something for competitive?

No no i mentioned this list is only for SINGLE PLAYER games, aka immersion. But good staging and imaging are nice to have, so is a bass with rumble.

Gotcha, well I think for immersion something like the z1r would be pretty neat, the 900mk2 would also be fairly immersive too. I think the c flow might be a bit boring for your tastes, and the 820 is just overpriced, you would want to consider the 800s instead, but itā€™s super amp picky but does have the soundstage and imaging you are looking for (although itā€™s not the best for bass in this price range). I would recommend the 1990 pro over the 1770, thatā€™s also very immersive for the price

Also the 1000x is my top for comp, there are others that I think might beat out the 880 for comp gaming like the 1990 or something, 880 600 is my budget pick. IDK why I like the 1000x for gaming so much tho lol, I just end up preferring it for comp compared to much higher tier headphones

HD800s absolutely does not fit my taste for single player games. And why are you recommending the DT1990 for single player games? Does it have a bass with a punch and rumble? I agree with you it is a solid competitive choice. As far as I know, one headphone cannot excel at BOTH competitive AND single player gaming.

So your top 3 for competetive are:

  1. AD1000x
  2. DT1990 pro
  3. DT880 600ohm

And your top 3 for single player are:

  1. Sony Z1r
  2. Fostex TH-900mk2
  3. DT1990 pro (again?)

So personally for you I think you would like the 1990 pro the most for competitive imo (itā€™s hard to recommend the 1000x to people tbh, many of them prefer something else)

I have different top single players ones tbh, just to check what is your budget for the single player headset?

you can list your top single player headphones that you own, irrespective of price. My budget goes up to $1500 but it is flexible.

DT1990 Pro would be flipping amazing for competitive FPS and also great for music too!

Lol here are some immersive picks then (not in any order and off the top of my head) disregarding price:

Hifiman Shangri la
Hifiman HE6se
Warwick Aperio
Sony MDR R10 bass heavy
Sennheiser HE60
Stax 007mk2
Abyss AB-1266 PHI TC
ZMF Verite
Audioquest Nighthawks

To name a few, admittedly any headphone can be used for single player tbh, you just want one thatā€™s somewhat immersive. Also would your budget be including a dac and amp? With a higher end headphone you would be spending a fair bit on a dac/amp combo to match it too

Oh no, none of these are on my shortlist. So you just made my shortlist way longerā€¦Thank you though, I will do some research.

I do own a DAC (SMSL SU-8) and an AMP (SMSL SP200 THX)

Audioquest Nighthawk for suspenseful atmospheric horror games?

So actually I would look around and perhaps consider a fostex th610, thatā€™s got a fair amount of the performance of the th900mk2 but less expensive. IF you could find a fostex x00 ebony or emu teak those would be my picks. They have the signature you want and very good imaging, but def not a wide soundstage, but are fairly immersive imo.

I would actually really recommend the audioquest nighthawks, they are seriously fun for gaming, and at 250 they are a real great value, I would say pick those up first and see what you think before you make your move for causal imo. The nighthawks have an interesting presentation thatā€™s hard to describe with great imaging and also very nice bass with a unique sound signature. They do need some burn in for both the drivers and your ears to get used to them though

So for now, I would say get the 1990 for competitive and the nighthawks for fun and see what you think. You want to take this in steps to really figure out what you like so you know where to move

Audioquest Nighthawk Carbon are my favorite headphones I have ever tried. Extra fun and unique, one reason I love them for movies is because they are so immersive with their 3D like sound.
But I agree with M0N wholeheartedly.
For competitive where accuracy and pinpointing things is needed, DT1990 Pro.
For laid back immersive fun, where accuracy and pinpointing things isnā€™t needed as much as pure enjoyment, the Audioquest Nighthawk Carbon.

I am using the dt1990 in my Xbox with a topping Nx3s to power them up and they are perfect for fpsā€¦

In another post u said you are using dt990 with xbox. Which one is it? DT1990 or DT990?

M0N, for horror atmospheric games, also the audioquest nighthawk?

That would be pretty freaky with the nighthawks lol, that would be pretty awesome. I personally canā€™t really play horror games though as I get jumpscared too easily and it drives me nuts lol

I hate jumpscares too, even non-horror movies some jumpscares scare me to death!

I used dt990 before, used. Now I use dt1990.
