šŸ”¶ Moondrop Aria

All internal wires are like that.

I know I am a bit late here, but I think getting yourself some Final Audio E Type ear tips could also alleviate that problem of yours, and in my case the fit, seal and isolation from those are just perfect for me. A bit on the firmer side so I am not sure what tip you prefer whether if it’s soft or firm. Yeah, I do agree that the stock tips are nothing to write home about for they are nothing special and I don’t use them myself as well.

I can now join the line of unhappy customers of moondrop. My left bud had a wiggly connector (the connector could rotate a little inside the shell). It was fine till now: the left bud died on me.

It happened when I was watching a review about the titan S. Could it be a sign? :smirk:

How many months did you get out of them ? Four seems to be the magic number.

Now that you mention it, mine died while I was looking at the HBB review of the T3 Plus, which looking back seems like a nice upgrade. I can even re-use the Tripowin Altea Cable I bought for that IEM ( note those are on sale at Linsoul right now for $31 ).

I ordered at the end of June. That makes a lifetime of 6 months. It’s not that bad, considering the port was wiggly from the get go.

Now I’ll be way more wary about moondrop. 70$ is not that much, especially in hifi, but it’s one of the most expensive set I own. Having such QC issues, while some problem even occured on other sets makes me wonder about the brand vision for its long-term strategy…

Yep, I had a Starfield too, and it was beautiful when it still had paint, but at least it still played music when it was a piece of shiny metal.

The old Moondrop SSP was very well made, so I am wondering what happened at Moondrop. The SSP is my travel IEM, but I also use this one for walks and that sort of stuff. I keep it in my laptop bag with an Apple USB-C dongle ( I am an Android guy ) in a nylon zipper case.

Hi I’m complete new to audio stuff but recently got the arias and my question is do I need a DAC/AMP to get more clear? or more strong distinguishable? sound or any tips to make sound better for gaming/overall? Sorry if I offended anyone with this noob questions  .

It somewhat depends on what you have now, some common sources may be fine. The Aria doesn’t need a strong amp, it’s quite sensitive and easy to drive. 32 ohms, 122db/V / 107db/mW. With sensitive IEMs the most common complaint is you can hear a slight hiss in quiet parts- do you get any sense of hiss on what you are currently using? If so, a quieter DAC would get rid of it. Something as cheap as a $9 dongle would be sufficient, as again, they are easy to drive. Apple make a good one if you are using an Apple device, there are many other options around the same price.

Does Anyone know how to open the buds? My left bud is dead, and I’d like to see if I can repair them. But first, I have to open them and I don’t know how to do it correctly.

I have the Arias paired with some fiio utws3s. My right bud has been looser for quite a while, and it occasionally actually stops making sound if I don’t adjust the connection a bit. Seems like this is a pretty common issue with moondrop, Is there any solution other than just buying a new set of iems? If it helps at all I’m using the mmcx fiios with some OEaudio adapters because the 2 pin fiios suck

In theory Moondrop has a warranty, you could try to see if they will stand by that. I am betting the answer will be no.

I repaired mine myself, but I am guessing there are places that would do it, but I don’t know the costs. It was just gluing the connectors in place, running new wires, since the stock copper is exposed, and soldering the connections, and closing it up.

And how did you manage to crack it open? I watched and tried, but couldn’t even find how it should be done.

I used the opening for the seam on the edge of the cable connector area, and just pried it open. It seems like they just glued the edge a little, which was what I did to close it.

@exon worked on his too, so maybe we can get his take. How did you open your Aria case? and seal it back up?

My set must have get the beginning of the glue tube or something: I can’t move anything near the connector (except the connector itself that is whiggly from the start) :man_shrugging:

One of mine was a struggle, the other one almost fell open.
That probably speaks to their lack of QC.

I may try with the 2nd one: it could be easier and help me figuring the right methodology for opening it.

Fit now I have tried bare handed and with a flat screwdriver. All I got was bended nails and paint that went off/scratch marks. I may have damaged the connector in the process, as it doesn’t look as good as on the other side. I though about using other tools (a hammer for example), but that would require holding the bud firmly in place and I can’t imagine a way to do that.

It sounds like the glue that should have been used to secure the cable connector, was used to glue the case shut. Yikes.

It has been 5 h since I got the moondrop aria.
And they sound really harsh
The top part of the vocals sound almost sibilant. :confounded:
And that s not to say I m treble sensitive ,I have a hifiman sundara.

So you have bass? If you test bass-heavy tracks, does it slam?

I ask that because your description make me think you may have a problem of seal.

It does slam , but matter how I eq them there still that part in the vocals that s treblesome to my ears.
Just like the vocals of the hifiman where the top end of vocals have a constant"zzzzz" on every word ,but the aria has it a lot more then the sundara.

Almost metallic high vocals… that is the definition I meant…
Metallic vocals on the aria
