Im honestly not saying anything bout the users here but and there is obviously an issue with their painting technique on these starfields. But I must of gotten the only good painted ones? Mine havnt chipped at all and ive literally dropeed them on the floor xD. Had them for nearly 1 year now and literally no chipping. Maybe I got a later revision with better painting or a better batch of primer haha.
…That could have been much of a better help since you said that I should have been using a metal etch primer, for I have been using the standard acrylic primer and it’s not clearly working for me. I will give that one a try with a metal primer spray applied instead of the standard primer I have used for my set.
If it works, then it’s good. If not, well I am not going to bother again, this is its last chance to have a repaint.
Yeah I guess you did got the revision and I am a bit jealous to see that you have that version of the Starfields since I love the Starfields’ original color.
No big deal though, I think a repaint of it again with a bronze metallic color and with the appropriate primer applied to it would make my own set look even more unique than it already is.
That is true, I might give it a Moondrop KATO look or something like a Chrome Blue look. Though I think a Steampunk colored Starfield can make it much color, so many options tbh, I just need the right paint.
The art of painting is done in the prep. Etch primer with enamel paint always got me good results. There’s probably a all-in-one metal primer enamel paint out there as well.
Oh they are wonderfull, I do need some other IEMs for more variety but when I get tired of my Sonys neutral responce I just put them in and enjoy music for hours on end and they just work their best on female vocals and thats the thing I enjoy most in music. I use them quite sparingly not even on purpse cos I dont want to get tired of them. But could also be how comfy my Sony MDRs are haha
Yeah I agree on how you hear the Starfields, for I am as well never get bored of them for the sound signature that I am getting from it is just right, not too aggressive and not too dark, just the right sound signature that is chill and relaxing without sacrificing the musicality of the songs I listen to with these on.
Also in my opinion, I think the Starfields are just clearer and in some cases better than the Arias, sure the Arias have more bass and treble, but it’s not much clearer than the Starfields it’s a given since the Arias’ mids are sacrificed a bit for the bass and treble.
I did what you suggested, bought some metal etch primer, a chrome enamel paint (I was actually planning to get a Bronze colored one but unfortunately there were no stocks of it here in my place, so I have to settle with chrome instead.) and a glossy coat just to provide more protection to the coat.
Update. I sold them. And then bought Etymotic ER4XRs. Sound-wise it’s like jumping from a Corolla to an Audi.
Not only did I not like the Starfields but i wonder seriously about all the people who spoke well if its highs. They made Hilary Hahn’s violin sound painful, like she wasn’t one of the world’s greatest violinists playing what no doubt is an antique instrument valued in the $millions. But here’s the thing: Not only did the violin sound better (and not painful) on my HD660s, DT800s, etc., but also on my Tin T2.
To be honest I am getting paranoid right now everytime I use them with a new coat of paint. If it does chip again, well I might as well do the longer method of repainting, aka let the primer dry for like 2 days and then do the same for the main coat of paint and the clear paint. If it does chip again.
