Im a big fan on 4-1(x) scopes. I run two Athlon’s on 2 different 22lr rigs. One being my bacykard hunter with a 4-16x, and the other being my precision focused CZ 457 with a 4-20x. To me they strike a generous balance between functional magnification range, a usable minimum, and a top end that fits both roles for better target acquisition without sacrificing eyebox, brightness, and exit pupil size.
Going from a 4x to a 5x multiplier would logically conclude that the next step would be a 6x. This 4-24x does exactly that. This isnt my first 4-24x scope review. That would go to the Gen 3 Vortex Razor HD. Which I famously put head to head against a NF ATACR 4-16x42, and a ZCO 4-20x50. It was small and pretty lightweight for a Razor. But those attributes let me to conclude that the 4-24 was a bridge too far and was much harder to use throughout the entire magnification range as a result.
This optic, unlike the Razor, is nearly 2” longer. And that I believe is what makes the biggest difference between the two. There was no awkward and tight eyebox on the Continental. The reticle is properly scaled to be usable everywhere. It felt like a really well balanced scope, and operated as such. The Only complaint that I could really say is that above 20x Chromatic aberrations were pretty apparent. If your sensitive to that then it might be a problem. If your not, then you have a usable 24x. If not, simply dial this back to 20x and the majority of it will be gone. Then you could still use 24x for spotting shots or target ID.
Like most other continental scopes, I really like this. It works well and does everything that I would like to have for my own setups. Next time Ill definitely ask for a Brown one.
