I do that and according to my ENT specialist I have exceptional hearing for my age.
I just don’t find listening loud comfortable, even for genres associated with loud volumes.
I do the same thing, but that’s just because I am never paying attention lol
I’m still listening to these, maybe 60 or 70 hours on them and my opinions of them continue to change.
Whether it’s just me acclimatizing or physical changes as the drivers fatigue, the sound continues to change fairly substantially.
Much of the mid-range confusion is gone, there are still points at which I find the soundstage seems confined, but on other tracks, they sound surprisingly open.
I usually listen through burn in, but I think I’m going to leave them playing over Xmas, just to makes sure they are past any significant physical changes.
Hi Guys need advice, I can get a pair of Ether CX for a bargain on a local site i am on. Very trustworthy site. Ok the question is, are the CX a step up over the Aiva? And how do they compare to the elex? And advice will be awesome. Thanx
So I think it is in detail, but you also are getting a bit of dynamic compression with that. Personally I would take the cx over the aiva, but I might end up preferring the elex for most situations.
Thanx MON, as always your advice really helps
I should note that it’s not really fair to compare the elex to the cx as much, as the cx is closed lol. Also the build and comfort on the cx is crazy good imo
But the CX vs the Aiva? Lets leave the elex out for now. Is there more compression on the aiva or cx?
There is more dynamic range compression on the ether cx. It’s actually more of a preference thing, because the ether cx can bring smaller details forward a bit and it can be plenty of fun, but that makes it not as natural at times (if you care about that tbh)
Would you say the CX is a better HP than the aiva? Just straight up? I can get the CX for $535.
Oh yeah, I would imo that’s a pretty great deal
I paid $650 for mine, my 2c is they are pretty good for a closed back, and probably worth $700, I’m not sure I’d pay full price for them
They do change the sound dramatically over the first 100 hrs or so, to the point that while I usually listen through burn in, I resorted to just playing music through them at night to speed up the process.
Imaging is really good, with the stock foam inserts they can be a bit bright, I’m using the one notch whites at this point. Bass is good and well controlled, while the sound stage can be good, they can sound very confined on some recordings.
They sound spectacular with instrumental and isolated vocals, they suffer a bit on complex mixes.
I use mine when I need a closed back. I use my Elex most of the time.
Lol sounds like I should just get the elex and be done with it lol
Well, I mean, it is pretty great…
Thanx MON, never knew everybody preferred the elex just about over everything
It is very popular, but I don’t think it is the right choice for everybody (but in your case it seems like you would enjoy it lol). Just very good for the price with very good technicalities and a fairly agreeable sound
I think I would. Thanx Guys for the great advice
I just bought these and was wondering for the burn in period do I burn them in with the dampening pads inserted or no pads?
It doesn’t really matter if you use the pads or not, but if you really want to burn them in, leave them playing for a few days with a playlist of varying genre with a bit higher than normal listening level and you should be just fine.
Or you can just use them normally and go from there lol
The reason I ask is Mr Speakers said to burn in 100 to 200 hours with no pads then 2 days with your selected pads to get the best sound.
