My current setup and possible upgrade paths:

Hey, recently I was wondering about upgrading/changing my setup e.g. selling DT 1990 Pro + adding cash to buy something else, or buying something to have it alongside with DT 1990 Pro

DAC/AMP Setup:

  • Rebel AMP + Topping D50s with Muses02 op-amp.
  • Fiio E10K Olympus 2 - I have them mostly as a backup

My headphones now (I know it’s not IEM sub, but I want to provide you best context):

  • DT 1990 Pro with Dekoni velour pads. I don’t dislike them, but I’m not sure if I love them. I THINK that something treble-safe with more warmth/juiciness would suit me better
  • (wireless) Denon AH-GC 30 - used during work only. Recently battery died so I bought →
  • (wireless) Bose qc45 (I bought them on a recent deal using a student coupon from a friend)
  • (IEM) KZ ZSX
  • (IEM) Philips Fidelio S2 - I got them 2 months ago, but I can’t even fit them properly due to the short nozzle length
  • (IEM) I’m on 2. day of testing Truthear x Crincale Zero (blue)

My target headphone usage scheme:

  • open-backs → whenever I can, but rather not during the home office
  • IEMs → if it’s too hot to use over-ears or if I can’t leak any sound (e.g. at night)
  • wireless over-ears → during the home office, 99% of the time they are not leaving my apartment, but I like the possibility to roam around freely with them

What I was thinking about:

  • keeping DT 1990 Pro
  • buying Fidelio X2HR with Dekoni Choice Suede pads to have a more “fun” alternative
  • selling KZ ZSX
  • selling Fidelio S2 (I guess there won’t be many interested people)
  • returning Zero x Crinacle - It’s better than “first impressions” thanks to playing with the ear tips, but I’m still not convinced
  • buying Moondrop Kato and using them with brass nozzle - for quiet or/and cold sessions.
  • eventually, returning Bose qc45 → I got them like 2 weeks ago, and there is a 90-day satisfaction program. Mostly for comfort/ANC/Ambient mode. I won’t discuss sound much here. IDK if my unit has some QC issues, or there are just design flaws (ambient mode button is not working on each click, headband can’t stay with my adjustments). If I could successfully replace the battery in my Denon AH-GC30, I probably wouldn’t buy Bose)

Thanks in advance to those who read the post and are willing to provide any advice!

I’m not sure what you’re asking, but I will say that the DT 1770 would have been way better for you, especially if you swapped in the stock leatherette pads. They are in fact, Juicy.

Other than that, it sounds like you’re pretty fucked with all of this…

Maybe just return everything, buy some AirPod Pros and call it a day?

Yeah, I had a hard time deciding DT 1770 vs 1990, also I was considering buying them separately or switching DT 1990 → 1770, but DT 1990 (or another open-ear replacement) with decent IEMs will be more versatile for me.

I know that my whole post is messy, I’m just trying to find something for myself that I would love, idk what else can I say

Thanks for your reply!

This is where you make the most sense. And I say, start with finding something you love that you can use the more often than not, and go from there.

For me it is indeed the 1770. I have open backs and semi-closed backs I also love but:

  1. I like running the air purifier in the room I’m in
  2. Too many long cables lying around pisses me off

Thus, the coily-cabled isolation monster 1770s are never the wrong choice. The others only come on at specific times for specific goals.

For you it sounds like finding the best wireless in-ear would be where to start, or if you want to strictly stick to one of those 3 goals, cabled IEMs. :man_shrugging:

When you find it, start getting rid of things.

I agree, and I cleaned the initial post of unnecessary text because it was more confusing than helpful.

I ordered Dekoni Suede pads for DT 1990, because it’s summer I’ll prioritize buying IEMs more than over-ear closed-backs.

As I said earlier I never forget about DT 1770 and I will be considering them when buying closed-backs… How much sound bleed do they have?

They bleed very little. How much exactly will depend on the pads you decide you like on them.

Thanks, I’ll try to find a nearby store to test them before buying!
