The dongle makes these high-pitched, very quiet and intermittent sounds when it’s plugged into my PC, regardless of whether it’s playing audio. The noise comes from the dongle itself. It’s not a noise floor; nothing is heard through headphones and it all sounds as always. It happens regardless of whether headphones are plugged in or not. Changing cables does not fix it. It does not happen on my Android phone. Otherwise it works as always, I just noticed it’s doing this.
Tried a different port on the pc? Are you using the usb port on the back?
Its most likely usb noise, my old pc it was really bad especially when the cpu was doing anything, you could try a usb filter but in my experience they only help at best some of them do nothing.
Yes, I tried ports on the front and on the back. Actually, it’s a bit quieter on a front port.
What’s bothering me is that it just randomly started happening. Maybe my mobo is fucked…
unlikely to help but if you haven’t you can check for updated chipset drivers and bios
I doubt its anything wrong with the MOBO USB because if it was you would lose connection not hear random noise, probably something in your system causing most of the audible noise when its doing things
My mobo is up to date. The noise is audible all the time, not just when the dongle is doing stuff. But for now I’m just gonna disregard it, as everything works as always.
You say this didn’t use to occur,
Try lifting the ground on the power cable to the PC, temporarily. Something else on the circuit could be the source of the noise. Alternatively, find all the devices supplied by the same circuit and power them off or disconnect.
It’s also possible the crystal oscillator or other component in the DC04 is about to stop oscillating aka break.
Ground on the power cable? Circuit? Sorry, but I have no idea what you mean by that.
As for a component in the dongle being about to break; as I said, it does not make the electrical sounds when plugged into my phone (which is very noisy itself, when I listen to it with sensitive IEMs and an unbalanced cable I hear a noise floor, yet the dongle itself doesn’t make any noises)
Yes, ground connection on the power cable. The breaker or fuse and wire and outlet that the PC is plugged into is known as a ‘circuit’.
The alternative is don’t plug it into the computer.
