My LS3/5A System (REL or Rythmik or other?)

Ok, one last try and i know this sounds weird, make sure you plug it into its OWN outlet with NOTHING else plugged in there and even better yet it’s own 15-20 amp breaker. My big monoprice amp did the same thing and caused me a year back and forth until i relized it needs its own dedicated circuit becuae it draws so much amperage. It would power up but NO go with anything less. It’s all i got until you hear back from Rythmik. At least one plays :+1: better thn nothing for now…

When I plugged it in left and right channel it was into the wall and on the right side it was the only thing plugged in. Also the other sub worked in every circumstance.

If it crapped out after owning it awhile I’d consider it but I’d rather not unless Rythmik offers that as a possible solution then at least they’re in the loop.

Thanks guys

Yep, you have verified all you should for now. Wait until they get back to you and work with them,i am sure they will take care of you no problem. Best of luck!

BTW, it really seems to me like something is disconnected or dislodged inside the unit. Usually happens to large/heavy or fragile items During shipping. I doubt that unit left the factory Without at the minimum a power up test. Now if they don’t provide signal to verify operation, well bad on them…

Once I hear from Rythmik I’ll post an update. For now I’ll enjoy one sub. Troubleshooting isn’t as relaxing as music listening lol.

Fresh update pic with the pontus and new cables. Only one sub (read above if you care to) for now but everything is sounding really really nice. Sub doesn’t sound boomy, just gives me a much fuller richer soundscape. Lovin it :+1:

Super clean! Which rack are you using?
Also, for experimentation, try pulling your sub way forward and seeing how that does. I know you said it is not boomy at all, but you may get an improvement on clarity. I hope your other sub’s issue gets rectified soon.

Pangea Vulcan 4 shelf (one of which I removed). Can highly recommend it :+1:

I’ve been moving it around quite a bit actually. The current placement has the correct amount of bass for most music I play and sounds pretty even across the soundstage but I will continue to tinker for sure!

Goals! lol. Seriously though, I want something like this and I’m done. Special 40’s instead because that’d be easier to source. Love the pic and setup <3

Thanks! Appreciate that. Can’t say I’m done but I’m done for a little while lol

I would love to hear the special 40’s :ok_hand:

After chatting with Rythmik they’re sending me a replacement amp for the sub. Did a couple tests and he says it’s the pre amp board that is the issue.

Bit of a slow process getting replies to emails but they seem to be taking care of it.

Also I forgot to mention they covered all border fees shipping into Canada. Very cool :+1:

Brian from Rythmik got back to me (a week in between emails) and the amp should ship tomorrow he’s informed me. Said he wanted to do additional testing to ensure I get one in working order.

So I’ve come to the conclusion that the 3/5’s are excellent speakers when you listen to music that favours their strengths. Vocal, acoustic, jazz, folk, softer rock etc. So I guess what I’m saying is I’ll keep these forever but I don’t see them being my main everyday speakers but rather a supplemental speaker.

When the music is right for them they reproduce it in a very enjoyable way. Joni Mitchel for example has never sounded better. When the music calls for more speed dynamics and separation (with really busy tracks) I find for my tastes they are lacking. Also when I listen to the right music for them I’m finding a sub isn’t really necessary but does fill in the bass region nicely. They can be pretty sweet on their own.

I’m thinking totem or buchardt or dynaudio or wharfdale but really leaning towards totem. Harbeth yes of course but I don’t want to go from a 3/5 to a p3esr and the others are more than I’d like to spend (for now, the journey is fun).

Just more of my scattered thoughts. Stay tuned lol

The midrange is generally the LS3/5A’s forte. I equate them to the HD6… of the headphone world.

Yeah I’d agree for sure. I think that’s the obvious comparison with headphones :+1: which is probably why I like them so much. Just not an all rounder but I kinda knew that when I bought them.

There are a few exceptions like the new glass animals is very electronic but with subs it’s very nice on the 3/5’s

One experiment I thought about doing to supplement my Harbeths was to try out a Magnepan LRS. It’s a cheap, different-sounding alternative and I already have a pretty beastly amp/electronics to supplement it.

Probably not going to do it any time soon, but maybe you can add that to your short list too. Could be fun.

That would be awesome and I’d follow that thread for sure :+1: got to be a totally different experience which would be the whole point. Very cool idea.

Two questions I had/have because I have considered them are will my a23+ power them and do I have the space (12x14x8). Just not sure I can pull it off. Also I know there’s the thinking ‘a box speaker is a box speaker’ but I’m pretty new to the game in some ways so I’m finding them different enough to make the experience an enjoyable one.

Your listening room is fairly empty though, yes? So you can have your speakers far into the room, if needed?

12’ is the depth so it’s a bit limited there. 3-4’ is doable because I like sitting away from the back wall as well. I find it sounds better when I do that.

Yes pretty empty though. Strictly for listening.

The A23 will be fine. Your room will be fine as well. Your patience may not be - Magnepan is pretty backlogged especially on the LRS.
