I sent these speakers for repair to JBL. They said they fixed it but I still have this problem. I don’t even play the speakers at ridiculously loud volumes when this happens.
I calibrated the speakers to 74 dB© at -14 LUFS and the speakers still can’t play bass heavy music and movies with a lot of low frquencies. I can’t go above 73 dB© SPL . When I go above that the speakers just make a loud pop noise like a clipping noise when there is a lot of bass. Sometimes the LED in the front turns off comes back with a loud pop and the sounds cuts off. This happens with movies and also songs. The movie Arrival and Billie Eillish’s you should see me in a crown are some examples. The songs play loud enough and it is good enough for monitoring but when watching movies I feel like I need like 5 dB more volume from the speakers
I read a few posts online saying that it is by design that the popping and cutting off happens to protect from damaging speakers but it does that at relatively low volume. Even my Edifier R1850db’s go much louder without any distortion.
I tried evrything to fix the problem. Tried different sockets. Tried it in different rooms with different connectors. I tried it with XLR and also RCA cables. The problem is specific to volume and the amount of bass that is playing through speakers.
My room is 10X10 feet. It is small and i want a bit more volume out of these speakers. i am disppointed that they can’t do this without going crazy. it gets scary sometimes when the pop happens. it is loud.
I just want to know if I can do something to fix this issue. I talked to the Harman service center and they said they won’t be replacing it. So is there anything I can do at all or should I just use them at this volume?
