Need help Bass Boosting my MMX300s

I love these cans! They really sound great when I give them enough power but, of course, I want moar bass! Unfortunately, turning on the Xbass on my idsd BL seems to cause them to distort, particularly the left driver.

I thought that maybe it was a manufacturing error until I read on Beyer’s website that these cans have a power threshold of only 100mW, so now I’m thinking that they’re probably just being fed too much power…

Anyways, I have Peace EQ installed but I’m no expert on how to properly Bass boost without ruining the sound signature or causing distortion. Can anyone help me with this?

Some headphones will always distort if you try to boost the bass to much. I’d estimate the BL applies about a 6 dB boost. So try applying a 4 dB boost at 50 hz, 0.5 Q. Adjust the values until you’re happy with it. You can also experiment with the low shelf filter.

My DT770 pro 250 ohm always distort with the the slightest boost to low end, even with soft music. I tend to lower overall volume 2-4db and boost 60-600hz in small increments, leaving high end flat.

Thank you both for the insight. I’ll do some research as to what frequencies Xbass changes and apply preamp accordingly. I’m worried however that even with EQ my headphones won’t be able to achieve the proper WHOMP that I’m looking for. Has anyone had any success with making these (or any DT series headphones) Megadeth-worthy? Basically I want my head to rattle w/o distorting the drivers…
