Need Help choosing a closed back

I discovered the light and now I want to buy a pair of headphones that will replace my HyperX Cloud 2.
My budget is around 250 dollars and I want something for gaming\music.
I’ve been thinking about getting the Meze Neos but those are just about the top of my budget(and actually cost 300 if I buy them locally) so I would love to hear other options that might be just as good if not better.

what kind of games do you play and music do you listen to? what do you want improved coming form the cloud 2?

welcome to HFG!

do you have a headphone amp or a DAC?

Take a look at the AKG K361 / K371

In terms of games, I don’t play competitive stuff, I play casually.
And in terms of music, I got grado sr60e so I want something to “complete” it, something that’ll do bass a bit better and a bit more relaxing, cause when I tried to equalize the bass up with my 60s it hurt my ears.
Edit: I did some more listening, and the hyperX are narrow sounding, and they don’t have the impact or details the Grado for example has. I would want nicer details without it “ruining” songs that don’t have the details to back them up.

I do not have a dac\amp, but I was thinking on perhaps getting Fiio Q1 Mark 2 when my job will come back.
Right now I’m either from my phone or PC

and amp is more important than a DAC and the power out of a PC / phone isn’t much, so we have to look at low impedance headphone options only.

where do you live? have you checked the used market? you may be able to save enough on the headphones and get an amp.

I’m from Israel so used market is basically non existent.
I might consider getting an amp and delaying the headphones purchase, but, I’d still probably won’t have the money for a super strong amp in that case.
What would you recommend in that case?

Have you thought about Meze 99 Classic’s? They list at about $309.00US. You can get a cheaper version on Drop, but that is probably not an option for you. There is a cheaper version yet, called the Neo. And Meze are based in Europe.

I found the comfort, sound, looks and value were oustanding on my Meze 99 Classic’s. I had them for about three years and they were a great partnership with my LG V30 phones as the source. On the downside, I found that the very nice bass could get a little messy if you pushed it and they really didn’t scale well. I sold them a few months ago as I wanted to try a step up, but I do kind of miss them.

V-moda M100’s to complement your Grado’s. Very good for music and gaming at around $200. Also, the JBL Quantum 800 gaming headset is something to consider. I wouldn’t leave the house with the JBL’s, but I was pleasantly surprised with it’s technical performance with music. Both are bassy cans, so prepare yourself for that. I actually do prefer the JBL’s over the V-moda’s these days, but again, I wouldn’t leave the house with them out in public.

Yeah, after seeing reviews on the Meze 99 classics they sound like what I want, detailed but not revealing and a punch.
Also the Romanian in me wants to have just cause they are from there.

They are great and a nice counter to the Grado’s. The Grado’s and the Meze can be run off of anything and do NOT require an amp. Two of my favourites. I still have and love my Grado’s, but they are a little bass light. And the Meze are beautiful to look at. I know that looks don’t matter to sound, but if you are going to use them in public and at work, it’s nice to know they look good. All my co-workers and even customers used to compliment me on them.
