🔷 Neumann NDH20

I mean, it’s not bad, but I really don’t hear any improvement at all over the geshelli 2.5.

Gotcha, the 2.5 is real solid, so I wouldn’t be surprised

Yeah I mean I’d like to take a little more time, I bought it when it dropped in price just to try it for myself because of the varying opinions on it, and I’m just like meh so far. Don’t really need the ridiculous power it has, save $100 and try the Asgard out sounds pretty good to me.

What do you guys think about the rebel amp? is it better than the thx 789?

YES. No balanced I/O and not analytical but it is very much a joy to listen to.

The violectric seems way out of my budget. What do you suggest around $1000 range?

RNHP is going to treat you well in that bracket.

Rnhp would be pretty solid imo, since like every amp I like has evaporated from the used market

Among these which is the best? schiit asgard, jotunheim, rebel amp, rnhp, topping a90, smsl p1. Other suggestions are appreciated.

[The topping and the smsl are quite new and there are no reviews yet but the specs are really good]

The Gilmore lite mk2 is also worth a look imo

So out of those for the clear I would pick the rnhp and rebelamp, but I haven’t heard the rebelamp but it looks promising

The jot is meh imo and is pretty much completely outdone by the Asgard 3 so not my preference

The Asgard 3 is sweet but I think you would want to go higher end with a clear

I haven’t heard the topping nor the smsl so I can’t say much, but if it’s like their other higher end ones I’ve heard from them, it’s nice but more a measurement machine and not really a leader in sound quality for the range

Going tomorrow to have a listen and decide between these and the DT1990, both about the same price.
Actually excited already

Nice, curious to hear how it pans out :+1:

Prediction: the NDH has the upperhand from the start being closed back, but the DT1990 will probably wow me more (not sure they’ll let me switch between the two types of pads, though)

Ah, I would try to listen to the analytical pads if you can for the 1990, but the balanced pads are fine

I bought mine “unused open box”(and they looked like ) for $900 from an eBay seller with a long history selling Hifi. It didn’t take too much hunting.

The used market has gotten pretty dry right now with the occasional deal going very quickly, but hopefully soon we will see a new crop of stuff hit the market

Of course, that makes sense. The “quarantine effect” probably means big screen TVs and DVRs are selling well, too.

So there will probably be a glut of used items for sale in 2-3 months as people shed the items they aren’t using anymore? Something to keep in mind!!

Portable stuff is getting sold alot like daps and iems, so good deals to be had there, but desktop solutions are getting more in demand

Isn’t the rnhp sort of a measurement machine also? how does it sound like? Is it neutral, analytical, etc? Thanks for the help!

Objectively it’s ok, good but not great for measurements (years ago it would have been nice but with the more recent race for best measurements it’s not impressive anymore), having great measurements isn’t a necessarily bad thing either (magni heresy has great measurements and still sounds great) but when you start to compromise the sound for better measurements that’s when things get bad lol

It’s imo pretty dang neutral, but also at the same time pretty natural sounding. A good word would be organic and coherent. Things just sound like they should, and it paints a more accurate picture of what things actually sound like than some other amps in the range imo. It’s not extremely impactful, but it’s also not lacking impact either, it’s got great detail, but doesn’t shove it in your face, the timbre is really nice, and overall it’s got great control over what you put on it. Imo it works best with easier to medium drivability headphones, but it isn’t pushing a he6 anytime soon.
