I decided to try out j.foppsā€™ mod and it works very well.

Has anyone tried the open back version of these cans, the NDH30?

Huh. Me too, kinda. Good luck finding a pair, though. If you can find a place that offers them they appear to be several months out. Makes you wonder how serious they are about them.

It seems the NDH30 are not even sold yet. When Thomann has none it is boiling hot. From the NDH30 page, it is a neutral headphone because going open back makes tuning easier right? I hope it sounds good but at the same time I wanted to go with some speaker set e.g. KH 120, Fluid Audio FX80, Genelacs or Focal but of course Id go to a music store first.

After a long while of use, I still absolutely love my NDH20, but comfort-wise itā€™s so bad that it takes away from the amazing sound

So I bought a pair of these ~ a year ago. Theyve seen several moves so I donā€™t fault them for this but the right pad started to rip. There has been some discussion on here about swapping pads, are there any recommendations or should I hunt down the OEMS?

Dekoni Beyer pads do fit, not a perfect tight fit but it is ok for me. Sennheiser HD300 pro headband also do fit and I find it better then using Dekoni nuggets. Here is a picture with the Dekoni Suede and HD300 headband.

how different is the sound with these pads?

For me the sound is good. I donā€™t feel a need to swap the original pads. I tested with Shure 1540 pads and was not good for me. The original pads are tearing apart very easily and the price to quality ratio is bad in my point of view.

Replying to an old post but, I was recently searching for replacement pads for the ndh 20, how did the brainwavz XL pads fit onto the ndh20? Did they fit alright into the grooves? Or did you need additional tape-work afterwords? The brainwavz page says their ā€œroundā€ pads fit the ndh 20 but no mention in the page for the XL pads.

also interested in the current state of things regarding ā€œbetterā€ earpads for the NDH20, since i need to replace my original ones now. Should i just order new originals (49ā‚¬ā€¦ have seen worse lol) or is there a clear recommendation for other pads? I guess the Neumanns heavily depend on the sealing/dampening of the originals, but comfort is another thingā€¦ :man_shrugging:

Thought I would post an update here for those interested: I purchased pads from brainwavz about a year ago for the ndh 20. I specifically bought the ā€œHeadphone Memory Foam Earpads - XL Sizeā€ and ā€œHeadphone Memory Foam Earpads - Roundā€. Both seems to fit, with the XL having a bit more room on the fitting. I have been using the round version for 5 months now and long term wise itā€™s waaay better than the stock pads for sure. I remember buying these headphones 3 years ago and I knew i loved the sound but hated the comfort and ear fit was so-so. Dekoni nuggets and these new replacement pads will set these headphones straight, though it takes an additional $50-70 on top of the increased $550 price.

Sound signature has managed to stay very close to the sound signature from stock pads, though the increased distance from ear to driver due to thicker padding and change from the stock ā€œfoamā€ material to what I think is sheepskin has changed the sound signature. Best I can describe it is very similar to going from stock hd 6xx pads to fenestrated sheepskin pads from dekoni (if you have gone down that route before). IMO even with the new pads and even though I love my ndh20 as a closed-back, Iā€™ll still probably recommend others get the ndh30 for superior comfort though it is open-back.

Anybody else had the experience that the soundstage is super narrow, as in a small area mostly left-center (less than 45 degrees) to center? Iā€™m just asking if thatā€™s normal since I bought them used and itā€™s not something I encounter every day.
Edit: resolved, itā€™s my ampā€™s imbalance.
