When I plug them into my laptop, they are completely silent. However, as soon as I start to play sound from any source, they start hissing quite noticeably. It doesn’t seem to be a problem with my 3.5mm port, as other wired headphones don’t have this problem. If I use the IEMs with a smartphone, the hissing is still there, but it is much quieter than on a computer.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of this hissing sound? I’m using the original cable that came in the box, would a different cable help?
The noise floor of the amplifier in your phone, motherboard, dac amp etc… is being amplified by your iem because its sensitivity is high.
use a better quality source that doesn’t have an audible noise floor(hiss, buzz)
What IEMs have you used off your laptop before? Im sure adding an impedance adapter would help but I am surprised you are hearing hissing with that set. It’s a single DD that is not particularly sensitive. Unless there are a lot of accounts of this IEM hissing with sources I would return it and get a new one before you start investing in adapters and sources
Thanks for all the replies. This is my first set of IEMs, I’ve never tried any others. I’ve tried studio headphones before, and they worked fine, as well as the usual assortment of cheap wired earphones and bluetooth headphones and such, without any problems.
My dad is getting a set of the same IEMs for himself, so once they arrive I’ll try them and see if they work any better. I still have a few weeks before the return window closes, so I’ve got time. Thanks for the advice!
