New subwoofer sound help

I am going crazy here. I had a polk psw108 $199 sub that sounded good enough and added bass during gaming and was impressed.

So i wanted more and ordered a Rythmik LV12F $600 and it seems weird.

Since ive only had the polk to compare i dont know exactly what “accurate, boomy, clean, fast ,etc…” means at an ear level.

I’m not sure if this is what a (insert quoted word above here) sub is supposed to sound like or if its because the servo technology or a faulty sub

But heres my non audiophile way of trying to explain. The polk had bass you could here in most actions in video games like walking on a wooden deck it just was full of bass almost every action at 12 o clock volume on sub.

Now the rythmik at 2 o clock volume on sub I don’t really hear the sub much at all except for grenade explosions and when they hit it seems to go lower than the polk ,but theres no energy almost like the rythmik isn’t using and of the amps power like its so proud of how it can hit the lows it dosent really try anything else besides super low freq.

Its like the rythmik hits real low bass good and is anemic everywhere else.

Another example is music when i first hooked it up i couldn’t really tell if it was working unless i turned the volume on sub to max then it sounded good ,but then i could turn back to 2 o clock volume and go to youtube and play bass boosted videos and the bass is amazing.

I am a sub noob but this doesnt seem right and i tried to explain the best i could. so far im dissapointed and broke now.

Is this the intended sound or a rythmik lv12f ?

avr settings all speakers set to small and crossover 80hz
klipsch rp600m x4
klipsch rp450c
rythmik lv12f

Please help i dont know what to do.

It sounds like you discovered the difference between sub-bass and mid-bass.

The Polk is smaller, driver and box, so it can’t hit very low. It relies on more mid-bass thump and that can come off as very musical. A lot of music has like 80hz and up style of bass, mainly due to mixing because not all systems can play down to 30hz.

The Rythmik is capable of far, far deeper sub-bass and with the 80hz crossover, it’s focusing more on that. It’s made so well that it really is hitting below that 80hz realm, so you’re getting the procussion rather than the thump.

So, you might want to set your crossover higher if you want more thump.

Check out these two songs. Justice - Phantom has like a 30-35hz roll through it that many speakers really can’t pick up. Big Boi - Higher Res plays around in a spectrum of bass, and there’s the occasional 30-45hz drop–my speakers barely hint at this, but it’s THERE in my headphones.

Ok yes those songs sound good and i think your right about the mid bass part. I cant tell but it might sound a little better with the crossover at 90hz instead of 80hz.

I still want more mid bass ,but i guess i cant have it all lol.

Thanks

Below 40 is what i call agricultural. Digging deep into the earth. Or as Z would call “deep down to your ballz”

Chewbacca would still like it though LOL

Dont think that cat can hear anymore.

I know right

It might be the signal coming from the sub out of the receiver. Not enough voltage.

You could try not setting a crossover from the receiver, send full signal to speakers and sub and then set the crossover on the sub to 100hz. This will create an overlap between speakers and sub and create more thump.

Not “idealistic” but starting from there and playing around can yield desired results.

After another sub crawl and setting the crossover 90hz im starting to like it. I think i just was used to like KeroseneSlickback said the mid bass sound of smaller crappier subs .Tthe more i listen to this the more its growing on me. At first i was just startled by the total different sound and thought something was wrong.

Bigger front speakers, bigger drivers and more power.

Get another polk for the front stage.

The issue was the yamaha rxv685 has very low sub output and the solution was splitting the lfe cable to both of the rca line ins on the sub …It sounds great now. Rythmik support says its a known issue wit yamahas sub out
