I have a Massdrop O2 + SDAC DAC/Amp,and I am looking for a good pair of headphones around the $200 price point. Currently i was looking at the 6XX or the Noir 99’s. Use case is that I game a lot, anything from MOBA’s to shooters, and boardgames. I usually use discord with a desk microphone and listen to music and chat with friends a lot when i play casually. I also make a little music using a Roli Keyboard and (insert software of choice). Is there an alternative pair of cans, open or closed back that I should be looking at?
To be honest, for your use case, I don’t think either of those cans would be ideal. Also what music do you listen to, and how much of the usage would be music production?
I personally think you might really like a dt 880 250 ohm for your circumstances and use cases
35% , as far as style of music I listen to everything except for folk and bluegrass LOL. Rock, BLues, Classical, lofi, and edm would be mainstays in playlists
I also dont mind getting a second pair in a few months, im just tired of using the Logitch 933’s for everything.
Yeah, in your price range and use case, I think of two headphones that would meet your preferences well, being the 880 250 ohm or for a closed option the akg k371
I think you can get a can that would do it all well imo, but you could consider getting something different down the line
Hmm interesting, i had watched z’s review of the 99 and i had placed a massdrop order based on that video, i still have time to cancel and thinking if i have to stretch the price to $300 or so would i find something to pair with my dac/amp?
So the reason I recommend the 880 250 ohm is that because it’s pretty neutral (tad brighter) which is something you want for music production and also if you listen to a wide variety of genre. It’s got great soundstage and imaging for games so you have very good positional awareness. It’s also very well built and very comfortable
The 99 is fun imo, but for your needs I personally think it would fall short in several categories. It’s a good headphone if you want something portable and v shaped and bassy, but I don’t think it’s that great for a wide variety of music nor does it have stand out imaging or soundstage. Also def not really ideal for music production imo
is there a noticible difference to the 880 premium vs the pro?
there are 2 listings on amazon with a $30 ish difference in price, also sorry for formatting, first time on a forum… never mind i did some cursory browsing and it seems the headband is tighter on the pro
Thanks for your help, I will give these 880’s a whirl!
So you want the premiums. The premiums have a straight cable and less clamp. Just more comfortable
I personally think these would be the best choice for now, and then later on I think you could get something different to compliment it
