Hello! I’d like to start out by saying that I’m new here, and new to pretty much all of this. Ive been reading a lot and not totally sure what to make of things. That being said and as the title suggests, I’ve got a pair of HE-4XX on the way and I’m not sure what to have go with it, or if I really even need a dac/amp, or a combo? I was looking at the iFi Zen DAC, the FiiO K3, Micca Origen G2, and just a ton of others. I don’t know what I need or whats good and could use a little help! Thanks in advance

So personally I think around that price range, the fiio k5 pro stands out with it’s great power output for the 4xx which is really likes. What do you listen to, and what would you be using the combo for (like any special requirements)?

Pretty broad spectrum, from hard rock to electronic minus country. I also plan on using them for gaming, in which I’ll most likely be using a stand alone USB mic for when its needed.
Gotcha, I think the fiio k5 pro might be up your alley then imo. You could also consider a dac amp stack but that might be a bit more money

yeah k5pro or ig you can stretch it any of the liquid spark, atom , heresy +topping d10
I’ve seen a lot of people talking about the liquid spark, is that a dac/amp or just an amp? Like if I just got that would I be fine? I’m just kind of looking for the best bang for the buck experience I can get with these. Looked into the k5 pro a bit too.
So with the liquid spark you would also want a dac like the topping d10, so that ends up being 50 bucks more than the k5 pro
depending on where you get t hem actually about $30 - $40
That’s true, also make sure it’s a genuine d10 as there have been some fakes floating around
or get the smsl m100
Sounds like the k5 pro would be a pretty solid choice for someone starting out then.
Would it be a better choice than a Massdrop O2 + SDAC DAC/Amp?
For sure, it’s solid overall and should have plenty of power and quality for the 4xx
I think so, the o2 and sdac are a bit outdated at this point, and if you wanted a stack the magni heresy or liquid spark + topping d10 or smsl m100 might be the better choice imo

Fiio K5 Pro gets my vote for the price. Lots of power for what it’s worth.

My starter setup was the fx audio and shp9500
I wouldn’t recommend the 02 for planars. I have one for my phantoms and it doesn’t drive them very well, plus on high gain it starts clipping very quickly.
