Newbie Q - 3.5mm to RCA Issues?

Greetings,

Total newbie question - is there any downside / issues with using a 3.5 to RCA cable / converter?

Minor context - I’m considering tipping toe in this side of higher end audio, tho I am largely a PC gamer. As such, I have been considering a Sennheiser GSX 1000 as a DAC and adding in a separate AMP just to experiment. I know if I got like a JDS Atom, I could pipe the 3.5 off the GSX into the Atom, but if I got a fancier amp like THX 789, of the JDS EL Amp that has RCA inputs, I was curious if there would be an issue or degredation going from the 3.5mm to RCA inputs on a seperate AMP.

Thanks for input!

I know for some headphones this isn’t strictly needed and I could use the GSX as a DAC / AMP combo, but I wanted to keep options open.

Nope! It’s literally the same signal just with a different plug type. You won’t hear a bit of difference.

Welcome to HFGF!

Thanks for confirming. 3.5 to RCA splitter cable it is then!

Welcome to HFGF! I have done this specifically with the GSX1000 with pretty good results. It’s not the greatest DAC/Amp, but a convenient setup with some cool features. Not a gamer, or I might have held on to the GSX1000/Game One combo I used for work Zoom calls for a while.

I still have the precursor to the GameOne, PC 363D headset ;).

I’m used to 7.1 / wanted the mic input which is why I liked the GSX option. If I dropped that entirely my other consideration was E30 dac into THX 789 or SP200 amp.
