Need crowd feedback regarding reviews and stuff

I’ve been talking to @Rikudou_Goku and he kept laughing at me because I don’t have a review template. I know, I know. I re-do every single thing everytime and adapt to the IEM’s needs. That also means double the time, everytime. And too much rambling.

  1. Quick question to all the folks out there, which I will probably regret, but would you like to see my tier list bring back classifications to the IEMs according to the each part of the tuning and techs?
Exactly close to what @Precogvision uses on his tier list:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1pUCELfWO-G33u82H42J8G_WX1odnOYBJsBNbVskQVt8/htmlview

I figure since I’m in the works of changing it, why not. I still have a database that has some of that older info that I could easily transpose. I know everyone will say yes and I will regret it since it’s a lot of work. Also if you have any other sugestions regarding the list, let me know.

  1. The second question is regarding the written reviews itselves. I have been shortening them as the time passed because it’s neither pratical nor fun - for me or the reader. How do you guys feel about shorter, concise reviews? I will still talk about music etc, just cut the fat and say what I feel about the set. For reference, you can see my last review (VERNUS) is already much shorter. Let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Personally I love the shorter reviews. Especially if it means more of them! As for ranking personally I like the crin system with the following categories

Overall
Value
Tonality
Technicality

I feel like that gets a good picture without being a crazy amount of work like precogs system but it’s your reviews so do what you want!

That’s actually a great idea lol. But id have to twist due to personal preferences or add a personal ranking to weight it.

Good call. Thanks for the input. And yes, shorter = more.

I agree with shorter, although I’ve always enjoyed your reading your full reviews. I find comparisons very useful, because sometimes you compare with IEMs I’ve heard or have, and that gives me a good reference point. I think it’ll be useful to have a benchmark IEM for each category (driver config or price), kinda like HD600/650/6XX is often used as neutral benchmark for headphone reviews.

I’m torn about listing test tracks - I understand they can be useful, but I rarely listen to the specific tracks the reviewers post (although your tracks overlap a lot with mine). Sometimes I think this section is too long.

Looking forward to your future reviews!

Concise is good! If there’s more to say, say it; if it leaves you with nothing to add, save your time and spend it listening to Cult Classics.

Regarding ranking, I like having an objective ranking with additional grades for hiw much YOU like it; you’re active enough here that any additional questions/specifics could be dealt with in due time.

Yeah. This would be immensely helpful and, honestly, almost happened with Moondrop before they started screwing around with their sound signature too much… I’m talking the Blessing 2 (/dusk) and Aria days. In fact, if you look at the FR charts, Chu actually brings back that older sound signature of theirs.

But of course, as is the case with headphones, the same is the case with IEMs in that FR doesn’t tell the whole story. So, yes, it would be immensely helpful to have such benchmarks in IEMs as in headphones where you have something like you pointed out, the HD6-series having reference “tonality” standard where as the HD8-series have reference “staging” so you know what to expect when other headphones are compared to those.

But, perhaps it’s because the IEM market is still too new and still moving at breakneck speed what with new planar and new DD tech seemingly coming out at least once a year. The same absolutely cannot be said of headphones which tech is now moving at a snail’s pace if even at all… haha!

Hi Nymz,
I really enjoy your reviews and they are yours, so do what you want. If shorter means more, then I can agree with that. I guess I am here because you were gonna review the Kinda Lava, you started to, then something happened and IF you ever did it, I missed it.
I am also here partially because IF there is something great comes along that would finally be an end game ciem, then I am still interested.
Thanks and God Bless,
Wayne

  1. I don’t care about detailed charts: they are way too subjective and prone to interpretation; for example, what does a 4* mean for mids? That they are forward, or that they are good? And what makes them good but not 5* good? Etc. In my opinion, having a sum up in chart form is a waste of time for everybody.

On the other hand, having a chart to compare sets (as riku or hbb do) is a great tool.

  1. The vulkan review is great: not too long , but long enough to get the spirit

Why is everyone forgetting the Crescent. :sob:

How does this look like?

Damn, that was a lot of work. Once I saw some incoherence, I just couldn’t let it go lol. To add an explanation/disclaimer and to do a re-run on all the rankings, but for today, this is it.

I already did that on IE600. I talked to HBB about it. This will also be on the Zen Pro review.

Thanks for the feedback :call_me_hand:

My review was put on hold since my set had to be measured by HBB see if it was a coupler problem or not, regarding my set to his. After that, it just went south and I kind of avoided KL talks since everyone was questioning it and even LETSHUOER was lost in the sauce. That could have been a huge backfire so I just bought a KL with my own money (reshelled my 07m) and used it on the side without public giving opinions, just the enough ones.
