I wonder what is missing here? All the drivers in one place and then the dudes wonder why the sound was meh
WHAT ARE THOOOOOSE
Senn’s next masterpiece, I guess .
They’re senny hearing aids
This hobby got me to a weird place. I went on a real vacations (not the “vacations of my daughter” kind of vacations) this week and took couple of sets with me. Few DIY buds of mine and to-be the star of the show UM MEST. I knew I would have some free undisturbed time for listening (while I am not tired as fuck after whole day or while I am during the work time) for the first time in couple of years.
I thought that due to the fact that I don’t have any new pieces of gear with me that I would be curious to hear the one that would spend the most time in my ear would be the MEST (which are like 20x the cost of the next of those DIYs).
But man, I was wrong. I did not even take them out of the case listening 100% to the best sounding bud of mine (amazing 80 ohm blue PET driver). I feel where I think I am loosing in some technical prowess and low end extension (which may as well be some bias due to the cost difference) I am benefitting with a timbre, huge stage and air feeling and what is the most important in such scenarie the COMFORT being on another level.
Either way greetings from Dalmatian Coast - probably my favourite place in the world
Still waiting on a piece of that DIY cake. I have some rikubud incoming and asked for a unit of the new DUNU bud. Buds master race.
Im also in the south coast of Portugal for the weekend. I came with less sets than usual… But godamn did I find great gems.
Enjoy the vacay bro. Hope you get some rest for us both.
I have my small part in those Rikus coming to you, so let that give me some breathing room.
Right now I am waiting for the balanced cables to make the same bud I was describing in the previous post (with 80ohm driver), so you could drive it properly in the end to have proper bass texture etc
Depending on price, I’ll definitely be picking this up. I need to hear what Simgot can do with a hybrid config asap.
But why QDC Noooo
Alright folks. Dad’s in surgery right now so we have some time to kill before work.
Thanks to everyone that reached out. You guys are amazing. Santa will be good to you.
Gonna try to dump as much as I can in the next few posts. Photo editing credits going to the nicest guy around @domq422 .
Wishing for good news buddy
7th Acoustic Supernova - First impressions
Frequency Response Graph:
Well, you all know by now I try to do it differently than everyone else, at least when I can. When asked what faceplate I wanted, I immediately scrapped that and asked what sorcery could be done. Most Supernovas out there will have beautiful (and real) abalone faceplates, but I’m special like this. I do prefer it as straight black, but most of you probably won’t. Just leting you know that there’s the option.
To give a quick word on the packaging, it’s pretty much what is expected in a set at this price, but unfortunately not the norm. Everything is well packed in a relatively small box, with all the accessories well acomodated. The highlights of those accessories goe to a puck style case with the 7A logo on top, a box of Final E tips and a great looking and feeling cable. My biggest nitpick with this set strangely goes to the cable, despite its quality, as it is shorter than the average, which makes it impossible to use as someone 1.85m tall like me, and hence why the last picture shows the cable I’m currently using.
Soundwise, I feel like I’ve known this IEM my whole life. It is exactly what I expected, and the graph speaks for itself (I mean, look at it versus my target). Nonetheless, this is my 5 minutes impressions:
- Great transient balance - not overly sharp, not overly blunt. Great attack and decay, which also means good timbre when allied with its tonality.
- Lacks the last bit of detail, and I think it’s not the best around it’s price point (IEMs with more clarity-focused tuning will still reign, like the MD Variations).
- Stage is good, but not overly depth a la 64a since the treble lacks peaks and dips. But oh man is the imaging precise. It’s a joy to see all the sound paning and being able to pin-point it in front of you.
- Tuning needs no warranty, graph speaks for itself. And yes, it is done to not show any 8k peak.
- In short, a slightly better version of the RSV that was exactly what I wanted. Best female vocals ever. I got myself to listen to Agnes Obel - Curse again and oh man, oh man.
- I do not think it straight kills kilobuck kingpins like Helios (SE), Gaea, etc. Please do remember that giant killers are just other giants that fit your library and preferences better and this is no exception, with the caveat to be more affordable than its competition - with a mortal price that some of you can actually afford.
- Speaking of price, it smokes every IEM close to it, an in my humble opinion, up to 1k.
- In short: it’s one of the best tuned iems I’ve ever listened to. And an extremely easy listen. If you can stomach a 60 day queue and you are looking for an IEM sub-1k, I do not think you should look anywhere else.
- I do not always agree with other people’s take, and even more rarely watch or read them. But what I’ve diagonally read in the past about the Supernova seems pretty accurate to me so for those that are looking for a quick but in-depth take of the Nova should read @Precogvision take here, as I seem to agree with everything he said.
Just get it.
Personal Rank: Easy 8, but 9 might be a stretch. Somewhere in between I guess.
Great review. Really looking forward to receiving mine though I’m on day 63 and it still isn’t ready. After initially being told 30 and then 45 days. Seems like you and HBB have great thinks to say about them and your opinions are always very honest.
For a 5 minute impression these seem to be absolute killers -
…. This statement right here has some god damned weight to it, Mr. CEO
Also, I wish your old man a speedy recovery, brother
