Congratz @mmkzero , let us know how is it going!
Thank you!
Iām currently just listening and listening to these; basically throwing whatever song at them and waiting for them to stumble - but they never do.
I have this habit of trying a new set for the first time by just hitting shuffle on them and listening to whatever song comes up first; this time it was āSchwule MƤdchenā by Fettes Brot:
Not even 10 seconds into the Track and I immediately thought to myself āā¦fuck me, these are clean.ā
Itās only been two days yet, but I very much love these. There are only two other sets that I have heard which I would consider better, albeit not necessarily by a lot, and one of them I am not really fond of its tonality (aside from both being significantly more expensive; U12t and Subtonic Storm).
Overall I love these; incredible set. More in depth review soon. Also, bonus picture:
Oracle, Monarch and Variations - love all three
This thread feels like home for source meming, so here it is:
I received my R3 II yesterday. Some short very quick impressions
As compared to R3 Saber it is slightly thicker and larger in all dimensions. Still very handy.
Build quality is decent, however there is a bit cheap feeling to operation of the knob. The knob is the weakest point of the device in my view in general. It sticks out so much from the outline of the device even with a case on, so that I am really unsure why it was designed like that for āportableā device. It can get damaged on one hit most likely, but letās hope I would not need to verify that. That is in my opinion the biggest problem of this device. Which just may tell you that it is a quite good piece of equipment
The user interface is much more friendly than R3 Saberās one - it is more intuitive and it is easier to get to the playback screens etc. Also I strongly believe it is more optimized for this not so powerful CPU - it works visibly faster and smoother in my eyes.
On battery life:
- after around 1h of listening on balanced - (36/100) + library update it went down from 84% to 79%. So 5%/h of listening It gives 20h listening time, but I wonāt extrapolate this much.
- Then throughout the night (9h) on standby it went down from 79% to 76%, so 0,33%/h rate. I never turn off my DAPs, so I really like this rate
- Letās see how it does keep up, but it looks like it is very viable device from the battery standpoint
Edit: one thing that is also not better if not worse than in R3 Saber is the rate at which the album art loads on album list scrolling. Sometimes it takes like 5s to do so. It may cause the general performance a bit smoother, but still, something to note
Thanks for the update!
I understand that the EQ works systemwide also for Tidal and so on but does it also work when R3II is used as a bluetooth DAC/AMP?
Also how fast does it skip through tracks in the above scenario with 3625 tracks in the playlist?
Unfortunately MESB and EQ do not work when used as BT DAC/AMP. At least you could not access the EQ menu anyway as it is locked on BT playback screen - which is really stupid anyway.
In regards to skipping tracks it is as close to being immediate as possible
Thanks for clarificationā¦ I hoped so much for EQ to work
But good to know skipping is fastā¦ With my Shanling M6 Pro 2021 it is quite laggy
Very balanced, dynamic, customizable sound (filters and tips)ā¦
Quite impressed really. I havenāt been since I tried the Focal Clear.
Those look great! Are they open back? And howās the midrange?
Also when you say the Clear, you mean the originals and not the MG, right?
Yeah. They are open but really function as semi-open. Its leakage is quite low. Its not similar like an open back over ear.
Regarding the sound, its midrange seems to me to be the best of the iem. In general they donāt have weak points thatās why I like themā¦they make everything 8/9ā¦like the focal clearā¦and yes, Iām talking about the original. I havenāt tried the Mg. I donāt think it sounds bad that MG versiĆ³n.
I want to add that with amplification the Fh9 (like any iem/over ear over ā¬50) improves in body, layers, detailā¦
I love my FH9 itās a superb example of a midrange endgame especially as you can tune it to your personal preference with the interchangeable nozzles. Iām a treble nozzle guy.
Yesā¦i dont think mid fi flagship as Dunu Sa6 MK2, Mangird Top, Moondrop Variations are better.
Iāve heard mixed opinions about the FH9, seems like most people donāt care for it.
Hsve you heard of Michael Bruceās S12 mod called the Glamdring yet?
I have heard of this mod, not interested in mods other than maybe getting a Sony MH-755 with MMCX connectors in the future.
If Iām honest, I have no idea what end IEM I want lol, thereās a ton of viable stuff in the kilobuck space.
The defacto kilobuck IEM almost everyone recs is the u12t but thereās also the Z1R, Sympthonium Crimson and Helios SE as potential picks.
At around $300, I can say ordering from Michael Bruce will put you at endgame or at the very least very damned close. Feels like you are aiming for a sound that you can enjoy all day, and Glamdring will fit that bill and then big-time-some. Give him a shout on his Discord you wonāt regret it
Iām pretty interested - Whatās his Discord?
I almost forgot about his order form so thereās that there.
His Discord is Shortbus Audio And Paul Wasabi.
Hey @nymz whenever you get a chance, I finally obtained a pair of OG Teas and I love them. I believe I need a cookie and induction into the cult. No rush though because the Teas wonāt be going anywhereā¦
Edit: BTW, I hope you, the kid, and your girl are doing great!
