Don’t be me. I found what could have been my end game after one month in the hobby and now I’m still here trolling instead of being richer.

Keep in mind I also flip what I don’t like and giveaway some stuff. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Let’s just say curiosity. I do it so others don’t have to. Problem is when I really like something… My buddies’ wallets love that

Got Tanchjim Tanya for the filters for EJ07M.

Turns out I didn’t need the filters, but started listening to the Tanya today I genuinely find these enjoyable for coffee time. Literally threw out the Final E500.

Btw, why does the Tanya come with Tanchjim filters in the first place? It doesn’t seem that its nozzles needed the filters. Are the additional filters the same as the ones that came stock on the nozzle?

That’s great! I use the Fiio FH3 as the base for going into busy kpop songs, but the Mele has been pretty great with it so far as well.

That’s one of the things that i really loved about the FD5, the bass really seemed to be more my liking and the timbre as well, but yeah. The resolution detail felt just a tad lacking but can still sounded natural. Knowing that you were an FD5 owner previously, the Teas can be a good buy for me.

I’ll try to take a look around at my local audio store to see if they have them available for a demo! I’m currently holding off from buying any IEMs and currently looking into a new DAP, though the Shanling M3X is the only one that fits the bill for my use.

You will start to like it. I’ll take a $ 15 JBL too…

I wouldn’t want to call myself a connoisseur but speak to me about kpop and we can talk about it for hours! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

They can have high production quality and still sound rough around the edges at times.

listening to Wendy’s ‘When This Rain Stops’ with FD5 really presented vocal sibilance for me to a degree but The Variations really helped smoothed that out and her Vocals became more crystal clear to the point I got to hear her vibrato. (Her vocals btw are heavenly )

I loved listening to both LOONA’s ‘Hi High’ and ‘Butterfly’ almost on a daily basis but I just can’t stand the sibilance on my FD5. The FH3 still sounded okay but it was reaching an edge to sibilance. The Mele and Variations on the other are able to drive them well. In later Loona’s title tracks, they get to use different composers so their songs after ‘Butterfly’ seems to not have Vocal Sibilances anymore on the FD5 starting from ‘So What’ which sounded amazing with The Variations.

An example for treble spikes for me are LOONA’s ‘Star’ and Ailee’s ‘Reminiscing’, which can be treble hell for me and my ears when using the FD5. That was honestly when I knew I’m quite sensitive to treble spikes. By using the Mele, Variations, and FH3, it manages to drive them pretty smoothly.

For an example of bad recording (I think this is bad recording) is Dreamcatcher’s ‘What’. It sounded horrible with my late Starfield and it doesn’t sound great on the B2 either when I was demo-ing it. The entire song just sounded muffled and grainy. After using both the FH3 and FD5, they surprisingly made this song fun to listen to. The Mele manages to make it fun as well! The Variations on the other hand, it manages to drive well but the guitar and drums doesn’t sound great. The vocals were great though.

Dreamcatcher’s tracks are great with the Mele, FH3, and FD5 due to their fully focus rock genre while The Variations can be questionable at times.

For other bright tracks from such female groups like TWICE, Red Velvet and IZ*ONE, The Variations is just amazing. If the Teas really are great on the female vocals, I can’t imagine how female solo artists like Taeyeon and IU will sound like.

I think you mentioned those songs before somewhere. I tried them and like them (despite not really being into K Pop), but found the production quality to not be great. Hi High actually went onto my reference track list as track I test sibilance with. However I don’t fault any IEM too much for getting sibilant with this song… it’s the songs fault

Yup! All the time haha! I used these 2 songs to test my sibilance as well as Wendy’s ‘When This Rain Stops’. The thing is, like I’ve said previously, FD5 presented vocal sibilance for me but on The Variations and Mele did not. My ears may be more sensitive in that area alongside the treble spikes more than you guys.

Tanya actually good for the people that like bullet style IEMs. Some people swear by it.

I’m lukewarm by the it’s tuning and I’m not a bullet lover. But what really throws me off is that, it takes a LOT of power. I’m not even kidding. I couldn’t hear what others were hearing on it. “Holographic Sound” or “3D” was throwed around and I thought, for weeks, that I had a defective pair. Then I got a new amp and gave it 1W @ 32ohm and puff, it opened up. Still lacks frontal depth but now I could understand what people meant.

And then I got mad. Why the hell do you do such budget IEM (Around 20usd or less on sale) and give it such perk? Srsly. Still too bassy/shouty for me taste, but hey, it’s a budget set.

Demo all you can. You’re lucky to be able to, so you must!!

Regarding M3X, I sold mine on a leap of faith. I have another DAP incoming in the next days for about the same price: Hiby R5 Saber. 1W @ 16ohms, more recent android, close to the same baterry life, more clean sound signature.

I love M3X but once I got more IEMS, I felt the lack of power and colored sound signature were a flaw. So I took the leap and got this one. I’ll let you know how I think they compare soon

Wait, The R5 Saber was my original choice before the M3X came along hahaha. Looking forward to your impressions soon!

Yup! I hope my local audio store have them!

I’l let you know

I’ve been without a dap for the past weeks… hard life man. I’m too used to it.

Was looking for a DAP myself and thought about getting the M3X. Did you like it?

I loved it for the “price to performance” (all daps are over priced). Very loooong batery life, ok interface, android mode as optional, 4.4mm, etc.

I rec’d it a lot and still do. I’ll try to see if r5s is better bang for buck since they share almost the same price.

They are the same filter. Just included as replacement filters.

Missed the question. Also you can stack them. Some people use two on tanya 🤷

And they are the same as oxygen’s, but different than Hana OG.

Did you notice a change in sound in IEMs on the M3X versus when you drove them over a phone and/or Dongle?

Or maybe I should ask: did your IEMs benefit / „open up“ due to the increase in power they received?

(I‘m in the camp of those who do not think DACs make much of a difference [or that they shoul be linear] but more power can help some headgear)

Yes, but not all. From a regular dongle to anything with regular power like M3X or qudelix, the difference is there on most cases. From those to more powerful sources, only some IEMs use it (Tanya, etymotic, tribids in general, rsv, planars, etc).

But it’s no deal breaker on 98% of the cases. The biggest trip I had was on rsv. I didn’t believed it until I’ve tried and yeah, it makes a real difference. Others tried too and got the same result so I don’t think it’s placebo.

Dacs make close to zero difference. Amps matter but less than other stuff in the chain. To me dacs matter as much or less than cables, so yeah, you got the idea.
