Oluv DAC/AMP comparison and results

Fancy studio Dacs I assume?

Man… this makes me feel like maybe saving up and investing in the Rupert Neve Dac/Amp might actually be worth it… Long term goal I suppose…

Yes, studio dacs in their natural habitat lol

I was thinking about that a ton lol, if only Neve would release a better standalone amp, because I won’t buy it because I don’t need the dac

Depends a lot on the amp.
The Jot does have a noticeable difference, because it’s balanced end to end and the summing circuit, going from balanced to single ended impacts the sound.
On the other side there isn’t as noticeable a difference going from single ended to balanced on the input.

Yeah, I guess I should clarify… I do believe with certain circuit designs on certain amps there will be a difference, no doubt… but more like if someone designed an amp focused on single-ended output… it could potentially do just as well. But again… I don’t know. I had my doubts this RNHP would be much better… but it definitely is. My mind is definitely changes in that respect.

A good single ended design can be just as good as a balanced one imo

They can if the amp is designed to be single ended, but some amp topologies don’t lend themselves to it. It’s certainly not a feature you should consider to be a win/loss in itself. But some amps will sound better through a balanced output.

What do you think would be good matching dacs for the rnhp?

Something like the d70 or d90, a su8, other great dacs, most work pretty well imo

Giova09’s description of the sound differences have me intrigued as to how this would sound over my atom. ^^; Don’t have the money to spend on this right now, but nothing wrong in making a list of what to save up for.

The atom is excellent for it’s price, but the rnhp is in a different league imo

I’d suggest doing a web search on ā€œRupert Neve Designsā€ and watching a fun documentary, ā€œSound Cityā€ (available on Amazon prime). Then you’ll have an idea as to what kind of knowledge and experience went into designing the RNHP.

I’ll check it out. =)

I wonder if Oluv would think his iPhone is better than the RNHP too…

Measurements aren’t everything? :stuck_out_tongue:

(Plugged into 5500$ Quantom AD/DA or a 8500$ Lavry Quintessence) ā€œFor over 16 years, the Lavry DA924 has held the highest rank among converters on the market for accuracy, transparency, musicality, and dynamic range. The Lavry Quintessence performance exceeds it in all these aspects while providing additional functionality.ā€

Well my main ADC is the matching lavry ad122-96 MX, the hedd quantum has a different sound so I use it sometimes

Also there are much more insane studio dacs and adcs out there lol

Yeah for sure lol, it just doesn’t look all that impressive on paper (except the crazy low output impedance), but it sounds great
