I have owned until now only closed headphones KOSS SB45 Headset and Sennheiser HD 380 Pro in the past. Currently, I have the QC 35, Sennheiser GSP 300, and Koss KPH30i. I like them all but want something new/different.
Because of some circumstances have some money to burn and I’m looking to buy new ones. The problem is I haven’t got the opportunity to try these headphones in person. But I will ask anyway.
Would it be better to buy DT 1990 Pro or two alternatives like the TYGER 300 R and HD 58x?
I’m looking that is somewhat in the middle between QC 35 and KPH30i in the open sound stage department and this would probably be in that range.
Any suggestions would be great. I’m from the EU, so availability also has to be taken into consideration.
Cool what do you use to drive or intend to use to drive your phones, what type/genres of music do you listen to and do you have a preferred sound signature?
If you have the money i wouldnt use it to buy a 58x. maybe the tygr will be good enough for you. i’d get that first. but the DT1990 is a pretty great headphone i hear. I’m not sure how close the Tygr comes to it. Also i think the DT1990 is nuetral bright. with pretty good soundstage. I’m not sure what the headphones you listed sound like. except the KPH30i. i think its nuetral isnt it?
I’m looking to pair it the Scarlett Solo (for the mic input) with an AMP (not decided yet). I listen to all music except new rap and metal. Regarding the sound signature I don’t have any extreme preferences, I like some bus and vocals to be present.
DT1990 w/ the b pads are more fun sounding than the Sundara. The Sundara Are clearer and smoother than the DT1990. Personally I’d say the dt880 600ohm are a better value than the dt1990. They have like 90% the same sound quality as the DT1990 and are $400 cheaper. Not sure if it’s the same in the EU and also dunno if you’re able to get the Schiit Asgard 3 cause that’s the amp I recommend you get.
DT 1990: extremely analytical, Neutral Bright with hints of a V signature. Comes with Balanced Pads to add a bit more Fun to the sound. Very well rounded and sounds incredible but can be unforgiving on some track mixes. Large soundstage like that of the dt 990 with imaging being very accurate and seperation being excellant
58x Jubilee: Balanced with some warm and dark tones to it. Rather small sound stage with good imaging and good seperation. quite a bit intimate but not as analytical as say a dt 1990. Very similar to the HD 598 or HD 599 but with a smaller soundstage if you can find the cheaper HD’s, since they can be found around $100 range, you may find them better.
Tygr 300R: Gaming headphone, Warm signature with wide soundstaging, unknown to myself, still mid shipment, but many have all said the same for this headphone.
In comparison the kph30i is a warm hard to beat for pricepoint headphone and the QC 35 has its treble raised making it a bit bright. I think it’s going to depend on what your looking for. If you want a fantastic spacious bright headphone, Like mentioned, Look into the Sundara as it can be found around the $250 margin if you shop smart otherwise another strong yet very budget friendly alternative is the shp9500 if you want even brighter look towards a dt 880 and even brighter than that would be dt990. If you want a very warm headphone. Tygr 300r does seem reasonable other suggestions would be Fidelio x2hr, HE4xx, or maybe the 6xx/HD 650
The price on the dt 1990 right now is raised quite a bit. Last year you could find them in the $400-$450 range but now they are above $600+ it may be best to wait on this one. While it is an incredible headphone Imo I think you would find more enjoyment in two alternatives. Even more so if you are inexperienced with a Neutral Bright open headphone.
Can’t view the EU pricepoints so I do apologize for that. Still, I stand by what I said that I think op may find the two headphones more enjoyable than the one. You stand to gain more enjoyment out of two new signatures imo
