Hey! I’ve come back to the audio world because I feel as though I finally earned myself the right to buy audio toys again!
My current reference is moondrop starfields, and you know, the Harman tune is great, since it never offends or anything. I’ve also owned Sony’s mdram2s as well, and those cans had a weird addictiveness to them since they had sub bass that rumbled, but not much other mid or upper which made it a very weird sound for me. But either way here’s what I’m asking you all for help for:
A can that has incredible highs and lows. Is it possible to ask for a can that has a rumbling bass to satisfy a bass head and yet the clarity in highs to withhold all the details to any well done song? Like I’m thinking of a v shape as far as I understand, but even then V shapes tend to focus on one side more than the other right?
I’m young, and realised that my ears are at their best and I should be appreciative of that fact, and realised that something with amazing treble should be right up my alley. Now even though I say that, I gotta say I’m rather sensitive when it comes to treble. Even though I liked the Sony’s I’m pretty sure I just started eqing them for less treble since they had a sibilance to them that would just make me throw them off my ears, but details would simply disappear. Which is why I’ve come to specifically ask for recommendations, since I’m sure some of you out there might have a similar condition towards sibilance and yet still found a can that doesn’t offend, but open up to the beauty.
My current equipment is funny enough a fiio X5 first gen player which I run on dac mode all the time. It’s clean and good n all, and would probably be alright at driving up to roundabout 100 ohms? That being said I am open to buying a dacamp, but the only real one I’ve thought about is if zen dac v2, since that has a bass button, and I was thinking whether pairing a sundara with that would get me what I want.
So between buying the zen dac v2 for the bass boost and a headphone to go with it, or a headphone that can actually do what I’m asking it to do with the amount of ability to run I currently have, which is the way?
My budget isn’t anything wow, and I’m still calibrating, so theoretical maximum would be £350, maybe more depending if its absolutely worth going the extra mile. I know I mentioned sundara and zen which would be 400+, but I could technically cut costs by buying used right?
Anyway I’d love to hear your opinion guys, and I hope this isn’t a caricature of a question that’s been asked ad nauseam.
