How would you rank the bass quantity and quality between the 9500, 9600, X2, X3 and the tygr. I only do own the X2 and the the tygrs. So for my experience and the descriptions in the other posts i would rank in this order:
Bass quantity:
X2 > Tygr > 9600 > 9500
Is this right? And where would you place the X3?
Bass quality:
I would say that the tygr wins here against the X2, because the bass is tighter. I haven’t heard the other headphones. So it would be nice to get some information about bass qualify between these five headphones
hmm, that sounds about right I haven’t gave x3 a listen just yet. x2hr is definitely bassier however it’s issue is that it bleeds a bit into the vocals and is a little muddy it’s quite messy and needed to be tightened up some was the only primary issue I seen with them personally. Tygrs kind of just walks all over the x2hr outside of the more subjective comfort if your considering overall sound quality
Thanks for the quick update @Falenkor. On the clamp force - do you think it’s enough to satisfy you in comparison to the 9500? Or do you think it could still be better? You and I had talked about how frustrating it was on the 9500; sometimes I would turn my head and would literally feel them shift just from that, it was super annoying.
Hey, yeah I do think it needs to still be better. The stock pads still aren’t enough for me. Turning my head still causes the headphone to shift slightly which is rather troublesome. Considering I have a relatively larger head too is more troubling. I taped the adapters on and switched to my Dekoni Suedes for my beyers and the clamp is definitely better. These headphones I would say are better but just not quite there for clamp… the thicker pads help resolve that and definitely tighten it up further and if someone has originally this issue with clamp I highly recommend a pad swap in this regard
Sound quality wise the more I listen the more I am noticing there is definite improvement in quality almost across the board.
give me at least around 3 days with them as I want to sit with x3 as well here and get some good impressions. I am going to measure them directly against the Tygrs in this regard as the x2hr and tygrs go head to head however Tygr came out on top. If the x3 is better(which it damn well better be at that price) I will be impressed but I suppose we will see. I already took it out of it’s box. I actually really like the pads but out of box impressions like mentioned previously it has some creak which is very unfortunate some swishing and creaking on the headphone but nothing while wearing it unplugged clamp force is quite snug and comfortable and the pads are I believe potentially alcantara memory foam
Thanks! Ill be getting the 9600s tomorrow but Im still curious to hear the 9500 comparison as someone who doesnt have them
X3s are too expensive for me. I will probably return the X2s if the 9600s are a good upgrade. If it manages to be an inbetween of X2 and 9500 im gonna be so happy, especially if it retains the competitive gaming benefits of the 9500.
If you want my initial thought on that comparison? This isn’t -as- smooth or warm sounding as the X2HR it feels like a direct upgrade to the Shp9500. X2HR has a bit of warm presentation to it and is much heftier there is a big difference there in both sound and build. I appreciate the lighter feel to the shp9600 in comparison but I don’t think its quite there against the x2hr in terms of sound. However, x2hr had issues as I stated earlier. This on the other hand the bass is tight yet impactful and weighty Going to spend today playing competitive since I am off work the next couple days
Keep in mind, initial thoughts. Subject to change.
yep, hence I said initial eh? It’s far to soon to call it right now
It’s definitely changing over the course of a couple hours that bass is just getting weightier it’s not picking up in rumble I am impressed so far. This definitely 100% needs a burn in.
Hmm, I am giving a mix of music with it now for my media as I listen to pretty much any genre but am rather biased towards rock and orchestra though I try to keep an open mind to the other genres. So far musicality it’s quite lovely to listen to. Using stock pads though currently.
well smooth highs are a good thing… this way if your playing and something high pitch screeches down a hall it doesn’t go out of its way to screech your eardrums out like the dt 770 or 990 can pull off at times as they definitely aren’t very smooth of course this is considering 250 ohm 990 not 600 ohm
Probably within a week. I normally ignore the media reviews… they love to gush. If zeos gets his hands on these he may fall in love with them. Modhouse needs adapters on these and quick
@JJPablo if you have the shp9600 you try the zmf suede pads? Is it just me or is that bassier than the x2hr? Pad swapping this to a thicker less breathing material seems to make that bass explode
X3 Initial impressions. Build quality leaves a bit much to the desire its nice but the creak and swish from the headphone doesn’t particularly inspire confidence. However, comfort wise is very nice very snug. Strangely I can smell the fresh leather while wearing this headphone rather odd lol just my thoughts. Some minor criticism I would suggest them make the L and R on the cables a bit more visible didn’t notice them at first till I looked for it.
This sounds nothing like the x2hr. Interesting… it sounds like the old original x2 but without the sibilance.
Current impressions soundstage is definitely increased it has that depth but is noticeably wider agreed on the HD800S thats quite remarkable as that soundstage is just massive.
Vocality seems to be in the back seat a bit here like said but is still there it doesn’t sound recessed just not center stage.
Lows: the quality has stepped up but the overall sub bass extension and depth seems to have been dialed back going to switch to a bassier song. hmm, interesting I wanted to check this. It’s a little amp particular. I started this with my portable Ifi xdsd switching over to the asgard 3 the bass stepped up more but it’s very tight and controlled now remarkable improvement to the x2hr though it’s not striking as deep.
Highs: this is interesting and may be a deal breaker warning that I know brightness when I hear it as it’s my preferred sound. This is definitely treble raised theres hiss and sparkle higher than the shp9500 this sounds relatively like a V signature out the gate and the treble can be harsh on the wrong setup which is something I just noticed immediately. Not dt 990 levels but on dt 880 levels of harshness. There’s definitely more air there and treble is increased to a noticeable degree.
Comfort: going to follow suit as mentioned and mention that it’s definitely much lighter and airier. One of my big complaints with x2hr fidelio was the fact it was heavy and padded so heavily it gained heat this does not have that problem it’s very light with what feels like higher grade material. The pads however are a miss for me. I can feel the inside stitch on the pad and the overall material feels a bit scratchy and irritating to me as someone with larger ears.
Current imaging is not on par with tygrs and at this current moment in time to me personally this is not besting the Tygrs. I will give them a longer period of time before making that call however as this is initial
hmm? what do you mean? I did make mention that it still uses the snap on adapters. However, the clips are now backwards so modhouse adapters aren’t going to work without some adhesive of sort. Not a lip or anything to pop a pad onto.
I haven’t tried pad swapping them. TBH they are perfect out of the box I don’t really feel the need to pad swap them but this could be the honeymoon phase talking right now
