Ok cool, that’s what i figured. Have been looking to do a DIY desktop kit build of some sort for years… nows a great time i think to do it all at once.
Nice , what are you thinking of doing (just curious)?
Really? That much better than the Magni/Modi?
The G stack is about $100 more as well though isn’t it? Hmm I could spend that on a bookshelf build. Also - What’s with the Geshelli build? Their stuff looks to me (not a big audio guy) like some DIY alu heat-sink build stuff. I hear it’s great kit but man would i not want to put that on display on my desk
So IDK if it’s 100 bucks better, but I do think it has the better dac for sure, but I think the new 3+ and heresy would most likely compete with the archel 2. Also the G stack would lean towards that analytical side of things, so that’s something to take into account
Also the archel 2 has no pre out so you would have to get a splitter for the speakers
I used to be into car audio stuff as a kid so i’ve built a bunch of sub boxes etc. just never got around to a home audio build. Thought about doing a set of Speedsters but i really dont need all that for my desk. Id even be into a super tiny build but i’ll likely just do a C-Note or some other PartsExpress kit for the flat-pack time savings. The Passive Aggressives look fun. I wish someone did a micro flat pack even smaller than the PAs.
It looks better in person. Not sure if you saw my review.
I’ll be doing an amp comparison this week and DAC review.
If you want the blunt truth the Geshelli stack destroys the modi3/Magni3 stack… The crazy part is the shiit stack sounds great, the Geshelli stack sounds freaking amazing…
That is good to know! Yeah, i’d much rather have a fun colored sound. And the speaker out of the Schiit stack is appealing now that i’m thinking of doing that as well.
That’s interesting! In what way does is greatly outperform the Modi/Magni? Is it as “fun” sounding as the Schiit signature? Or more analytical and clean (boring to me)?
I think the old magni 3 was just kinda too forward and unrefined, and also had some dynamic range compression that kinda took the life out of the music for me. The archel 2 pro and the enog 2 pro are a great stack, and I definitely wouldn’t say they are lifeless at all, but they might be a bit revealing for some and can make some poorly recorded music be a bit harsh at times. The 3+ is going to be a smoother amp from what I’ve seen about it, closer to the vein of the liquid spark
I ordered the 6 inch RCA’s off the schitt website for my Schiit stack. It should be arriving any day now I could find 1 footers on amazon, but figured the 6" would be the best for wire management
And (looking now on their site) about $160 more expensive. Paired with the (sorry just my opinion) horrid enclosure design (looks like an early 90s DIY amp) i can’t get behind that personally. If companies like Schitt (another US design/made company) can do what they do for that much less it makes something like Geshelli’s stuff far less attractive (for someone like me).
Part of me does want to wait and see what the Liquid Spark DAC ends up sounding like… but that’s end of Jan. Shame.
I have pretty high hopes for the liquid spark dac because if it turns out like the liquid spark it’s going to be a pretty great stack
I’ve been searching and the Schiity PYST cables look decent (and nice and short). I was looking into making a set but it was coming out to much more $$ than simply ordering the PYSTs.
Yeah, I have a have a liquid spark ad well. It’s the amp I use if I want a different sound.
To me it’s like going from a good set of main stream best but pickup headphones, then going to a more audiophile set. Once you hear the difference you can’t in hear it but I’ll give you examples of both.
The Magni 3 by comparison has a less dynamic range. On songs where the singer gives you high to low vocal notes, or guitar strings are plucked. The sound that resonates that gives life to the sound fades earlier on the Magni. It’s like Mon said compressing the music. Similar to what mp3 does versus FLAC. It’s sounds like your losing parts of the song… So if you can remember the feeling you had when you realized lossless audio has the little extra sparkle and detail… That’s exactly the feeling when going from Magni3 to Archel 2
The Modi 3 compounds this.
I tested for hours last night and found the modi has less resolution as well. I found on some songs the modi3 play what I could call a sound, the Enog2 made it apparent that it was just a sound in the background but actually a gituar in the back and I could hear nearly all the individual notes.
The testing on Juice WRLD legends the way it’s recorded has lots of Dynamics. The Enog2 was giving me loads more smooth detail and finesse.
The modi 3 couldn’t match even on my thx amp.
The shitt stack I love, it looks great, but if you want a lively, clean sound the Geshelli gives in spades.
I explained to Mon last night. If it wasn’t for the headphone clamp I’d think I was just hearing music… It’s like the hardware gets out the way…
That’s my honest take… I’m not selling our Schitt stack, and I want to try the heresy.
The Schiit stack is going to another PC in the office. Now that I heardn the difference to Mon’s point it’s hard to go back… Plus I have the liquid spark for variety
Well, that’s a bit different imo
Agreed. And that’s another one that has a great physical design and (supposedly) great build quality.
Well it’s pretty much all solid metal and is a brick lol
Sorry in finished my thought above…lol
Yeah once you hear a higher tier it’s hard to go back for sure. It was never really a bit proponent of the modi and magni 3 stack, but the new 3+ and heresy have me very hopeful after the Asgard 3 I listened to
Actually, hey @Canis have you considered the schiit Asgard 3 with the dac module for 300 bucks? I think that would compete well with the geschelli stack but be a bit more fun. I have personally heard the asgard 3 and it is much better than the modi 3 and magni 3 stack (not counting the 3+ or heresy). Also would have the build you like and the pre outs
My type of stuff! lol I just had some custom desk legs/frame made by a blacksmith using 2" square tubing for the rectangle (mid-mod style) frame and for a tiny desk… man that thing is bomb proof! I love me some metal and wood.
