I need to get a set of Beyer
I think the open beyer to try has to be the dt880 600 ohm premium (for me at least)
Lmao!
But yeah Beyer are superbly designed (from a mechanical, also visual, perspective) IMO.
I was actually going back and forth with the 4xx’s and the DT880 300 ohm though
Edit: 250?
Yeah both are great (although I personally prefer the 600 ohm) and it comes down to what sound you want
What exactly does that do? Someone (dont remember where) explained it like the sound get’s “borader” (or something) with higher impedance? (or is that lower lol idk)
So to my ears the 880 600 ohm are more even/neutral with a more refined signature. I also think it’s a bit more detailed and has better imaging and more accurate soundstage. I’m not going to get into the science of why tho lol
Lol fine by me… 90% of it would go right over my head anyway
but your a moderator now, shouldnt you explain why?
In sum, the higher impedance of the 880 600ohm affects the amp’s damping factor and the lower impedance beyers sound less quick or immediate as the higher impedance headphones. This is why the 32 ohm sounds peaky and sloppy imo. The driver of the 600 ohm is essentially able to move faster with greater precision and that yields better fidelity, but also increases the factor of the amp in the sound and requires a better amp.
Makes sense actually (surprised i got that lol) thanks for the explanation!
Well this is mainly only talking about the beyers to clarify, the impedance of a headphone does not really tell you anything about the quality of the headphone. It will tell you how well it would match to an amp though. And that explanation is a simple summary and doesn’t tell everything
Understood. Now is this a 880 thing only or does it also apply to the other Beyer models?
I think the 880 showcases the difference the best, but yeah the higher impedance the better for the 990/880/770 imo
lol i was just kidding
Well there you go lol
kinda ironic you’d think the higher impendance would make the headphones slower lol
Off topic, sorry.
I just imagine someone with a monocle writing “Digital to Analogue Quonverter”. Classy.
Lol I didn’t even notice i did that!!! SMH
It’s because i work with Fluke DAQ’s in my job… DAQ is something i type out or read dozens of times each day. Whoops!
DAQ = Data acquisition for those not in the industry.
The Modi 3 definitely added to the compression when listening to the Schiit stack. The Magni 3 still has noticeably more compression compared to the Liquid Spark, Archel 2 Pro, and SP200.
While I still think Modi 3 is great for the $99 price the ENOG2 completely outclasses it in every area musically.
The ENOG 2 is a cleaner, fuller more resolving sound vs the Modi/Magni stack. Heresy could change the game though.
