Picking up HE4XX's which DAQ/Amp or DAQ and Amp combo?

I feel like most people would just think I’m insane if they saw my house lol

None of my hobbies are cheap… Except maybe Disc Golf… But 20+dollar plastic disc wouldn’t seem cheap to some either.

Oooo! I’ve always been fascinated with the Fostex stuff. Are the Blues easier to drive? That’s partially why i went with the 4XX… i could get by without an amp in a pinch if i’m traveling etc.

I personally feel like the blues are harder to drive than the 4xx to get it’s potential imo

You can play the 4xx without an amp, but you’ll loose some of the dynamics… Its like they are a shadow of what they could be. They are still pleasing to the ear though.
I believe the 6xx is much easier to push from a phone or laptop. I think the He4xx are easier to push vs the fostex. That’s what people say anyway.

I believe I have the monolith THX portable on my B-day list as well… If not I wan’t that AMP/DAC as well.

That was my understanding as well. Fostex have always intrigued me. I think part of it is the glorious retro look.

I actually like the fostex biodynamic offerings alot, the t50 is good but the fostex biodyna is a very fun headphone

If you like the retro looks check out Grado. I like the look and they are fun, but can get too fun sometimes…lol sound great with the liquid spark.

Grado’s are cool for sure! Do they still only have on-ear’s mostly? IIRC the only over-ears were their super expensive (to me lol) ones, right?

By fun do you mean having your ears stabbed repeatedly, because than yeah they are pretty fun lol

Also you can just get the different style grado pads to make them over ear

Lol are they super shrill sounding with uber bright signatures?

Mostly on ear. Pads can be changed with other Grado pads. Z liked the “over ear pads on the $99 Sr80e” others don’t.

From what I understand even the over the ear pads touch your ears. I have the original pads on mine.

Well, it’s more that they are pretty fatiguing to listen to for most. They can be very piercing sounding. Just something I wouldn’t buy blind without more research

Yeah that would be hard pass from me. I need full over-ears with big, comfy pads.

Beyerdynamics are very nice in that regard for sure

Yeah they look visually right up my alley. ALways though they were neat with the wood cups on some of them and simple construction with metal and (what looks like) quality material. But i never bit as they all looked super tiny and uncomfortable. Piercing is def not what i want in a set. Maybe i’ll grab a used set to mod some day though.

More or less. They are solid in the mids bright highs. Liquid spark tames them a bit. Minor eq is more than enough on most songs.

No eq they might get out of hand on 3 -5 songs out of a hundred. But that’s the stuff I listen to

I have a set of 770s (someplace they’ve got to be like 10 years old in a box lol) I wish i could find them.

Yeah pretty simple yet comfortable design, with good sound

Also my grados are sitting in a box, but are there on purpose lol
