Hey guys, I’m looking for some advice. I’m trying to improve my portable setup (budget around 100$). My listening consists mainly of classical music and instrumental jazz (Orchestral, solo piano, guitar, sometimes voice). Right now I have the Blon bl03 driven from my Android phone. I quite like the sound, even though the Blons seem a little bloated in the bass, kind of “loose” and the separation could be better. What do you think is a better choice - get a dap to drive the Blons or buy better IEMs (the Starfields seem good)?
I’m inclined to recommend the star fields should have less bass bloat leaning closer to Harman neutral and more upper mids to treble clarity and sparkle than the blons.
Tis a shame because if you could drive them the Tin P1’s are awesome for those requirements I know this lol.
I started like you having iems that my phone couldn’t make shine(Note8) ,so I invested in a DAP FIIO M6. I was defective had dead poxels, but the sound it produced made me a converted believer. I also upgraded to a balanced cable. So the balanced cable definitively makes a difference. I would say upgrade your hardware ,you’ve got a good set of iems(blon03). If you dont have an issue with carrying another device around and you have a library of digital music . I say buy a DAP. Also if you buy more iems some are to sensitive that your phone will produce hiss ,compared with a DAP WITH A BALANCED CABLE that will greatly reduce the hiss and improve the sound. My 2 cents.
Agree, although the increase in quality with balanced cables are mostly due to the output of the balanced port having a much higher wattage than the SE port.
In deed that is the case and as such iems/ headphones sound better.relative to what a standard phone 3.5mm can deliver
What do you think about the er2xr? I heard it’s neutral-tuned so could be nice for classical?
