I’ve been rocking the HD58x for 2 years now and always love its signature and value for money but I think its time for me to move on to something else. Do you guys think I should upgrade my cans to something better and what can be its replacement for around $300 or should I stick with it?
You can get the open box Sundara for $299 at hifiman website now. I live in Massachusetts and no tax is charged. Shipping might be a bit slow now cuz of Chinese new year.
I came to say this. What are you running your 58x off of though?
FiiO K5 pro. Not the best but good enough for me
how do you think about the sound of it compare to the 58x
I’d simply go for HD 6XX/650s.
I don’t know how similar the Beyer TYGRs are for the sound signature, but you’d gain soundstage.
I run DT1990, Sundara, 6XX
I think the Sundara is the best deal price/perf under $500 and one of the best neutrals you can get for $300
Open box sundara’s are out of stock at least as far as I can see
my contact tells me this deal with run out soon, however you may be able to use it, if you buy direct from hifiman “HIFIMAN29” will get you down to $320 on a pair of new Sundara’s, they are running low on new stock as well, likely due to the Chinese holiday we are currently in
good luck
oh and if that code doesn’t work try “special29”
or you just appreciate my help use this ^ code if it works
The sound signature is very different from the 58X. 58X is like reading a book by the fireplace on a winter night but Sundara is more like sitting in a perfectly air-conditioned room, having an iced coca-cola after running 3 miles in summer. In other words, the 58X makes me feel like “hmmm this is nice but I probably need something else after a while, maybe a cup of hot chocolate?” and Sundara makes me feel like “This is perfect I don’t need anything else just fxxking keep it this way”.
Sorry I didn’t know the Hifiman website deal is off now. I found a pair of Sundaras on HifiHeaven for 299$ but it’s display model.
I had my 58X for about two years and I bought the Sundara recently. I first heard the Sundara 1 year ago in a headphone store in New York but I wasn’t impressed by the sound. Maybe because it’s very neutral and I didn’t have my own headphones to A/B. Now Sundara is my daily. I still go back to 58X sometimes. They are still nice and I will never sell them.
Sundarafanboy here
Sundara’s. Obviously. but only if you have a half-decent DAC/AMP. It doesn’t take well to phone/directly off PC
