Pro-ject Debut Evo 2 - tonearm bearing - Am I Wrong?

Hi there all.
Just setting up the above brand new TT.

I found that the tonearm doesn’t return to the same balanced position when it is tapped/moved vertically.
here’s a video:

This shows the arm balanced inline with the gauge and not returning correctly. (of course no tracking force or anti-skate is yet applied)

As far as I am concerned any tonearm on any price of TT must be free to move unincumbered to be able to track correctly.

Or am I too old to expect that from a “new design”.

Am I wrong???

When you touched it did you inadvertently slide the counterweight backwards slightly ?
Or are you experiencing some bearing friction ?
The arm should just float in the level position until you add the tracking force…
Also make sure the cartridge is not moving fore or aft…
This might sound dumb but make sure the arm raising lever is completely down…
I own 4 tables but none are Project models…

Everything is locked down. It is BRAND SPANKING NEW out of the box.it is bearing resistance as far as I am concerned. I don’t understand how the dealers can say it is normal behaviour.
