PSA, use proper packaging when you buy & sell!

I’m really pissed off at the moment, this is a PSA on why you either KEEP original packaging or make the expenditure on PROPER protective packaging when you ship an item. Many of you are cheap and want to maximize your return, on an item. I get it, i have conducted business w/ people for 34 of my 50 yrs…

When you don’t properly package an item, especially electronics you are asking for trouble. I personally go through the expense of purchasing hard sided cases of an appropriate size, or i use manufactures original packaging and will often double box the item. I also purchase foam, and cut it to fit the box and item in question when possible!

Don’t be that guy who is so desperate for an extra few dollars that you ruin the experience for you both.

Life is too short as is, and being pissed off for something this silly is a shame. Show some respect and professionalism, it goes a long way to speaking for your character, i don’t care if you have 1000 good transactions, all it means was that you were lucky, it takes one example of lazy shoddy work to show your true character.
That is all for now, DON’T BE THAT GUY!:rage:

I won’t jump to conclusions but yes. 50ft of bubblewrap costs about $15 and will last for dozens of shipments if you are shipping to others be courteous. Extra and proper packaging to make it fit tight and not move as well as physically shield it and create space between the outer layers is MINIMUM, shipping insurance is EXTRA and still greatly puts people at disadvantage when it needs to be used! I personally prefer bubblewrap but
1.I always make sure it is a tight fit, I will use as much bubble wrap as needed to make sure it does not move around!
2.that said I will err on the side of way too much vs too little
3.foam is also GREAT to keep around it does it’s job well and with big blocks like you get with printers, PC cases etc you can usually have large enough pieces to cut to size - if the carrier didn’t package it for you that means as much as you don’t like it you need supplies to ship or need to buy supplies, you wouldn’t ship a box without tape would you?

sorry you had to deal with this man, that extra packaging material at least from what I see looks sparse at best

This was a terrible packaging job, absolutely useless for an amplifier, the box was not an appropriate strength and at minimum should have been double boxed, there may as well have been nothing else in the box, the few scrap pieces of paper and bubble wrap are useless that were used.

What pisses me off the most is that i always ask the seller if they understand proper packaging and in this case the seller assured me AND is an active e-bay seller with hundreds of good transactions. This was completely unacceptable, i assume he will eat the money via Paypal, but that’s not what i care about, i really wanted the amp and the audio experience…

that’s just so much worse, I ship on ebay so I am not surprised I am guessing he saw no risk of bad feedback or just usually doesn’t care. I do understand and that is 100% big ego for him to brag he is a big time ebay seller and then show up with results like this. just shaking my head RN don’t really want to say more or I will get angry

I absolutely did NOT post this to trash this particular seller, there are allot of good folks here, but unfortunately many are very inexperienced In shipping sensitive items, which is what electronics should always be considered, FRAGILE…i just wanted to vent and remind folks that this hobby is expensive and they should take care in boxing items or they too risk having a bad transaction.

Maaaaan sucks to see this nick! What a shame. It may be expensive specially if it increases weight but I make sure to stuff the box so much that it is physically impossible for the items to move for this exact reason!

Yes, this is a hobby made up of many fanatic enthusiasts, most have very little shipping and receiving experience yet we deal with limited run, expensive and fragile items. Most proffesional audio sellers know what they are doing, allot of the amateurs who have proliferated the online marketplace in one form or another are cutting corners everywhere they can to maximize profit and this is the result. Shitty unboxing experience for Nick and when Nick gets pissed he fucking rants to vent…:face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yikes, that is a tough one! I save all my boxes and packing materials. And when I am short I tear up a ton of newspaper flyers.

Of course with heavy things like amps you have to use styrofoam, airbags and whatever else you can find. Or run off to Staples or a post office and buy a package of packing material.

Hope you get your money back.

PS: I have spent several years working in shipping/receiving and tend to always overdo.

@ShaneD Monetary compensation for damage is something i will deal w/ properly BUT i just want to get this amp operable and looking pretty again. I honestly purchased it because of it’s unique styling and ability to roll 2 separate styles of tubes, one pair on each side. I’m going to use this as an opportunity to Practice my manly DIY skilzzz. I have been purchasing all sorts of electronics fiddle-fuck gadgetry and have accumulated quite an impressive collection of tools used in the death and destruction…errr…I mean , repair and rejuvenation of electronics components.

There is a reason why i store my audio gear’s original packing material.
It has been shipped and transferred with that before me, it should perform similar when moving or selling. Might even double pack the original package for extra safety with bubble wrap + styrofoam.

Also did training work in school days in a wholesale warehouse so repacking and packing things well and secure comes naturally.
That amp and packing… is just painful to watch.

The damage reminds me of a guitar amp i sold once. I pack it nice and neat, so much filler to stabilize it, and send it on its way. I get a call at work from the buyer,
furious, so furious his wife even called and they were filling my voicemail.

I think “what is wrong.” I call him back and apparently ups dropped it so badly that the thick metal chassis bent and he thought i was trying to scam him. I open up a case with ups and after showing picks of it before shipping, an original invoice from the amp makers, AND a note from him saying that only mishandling would cause that issue did i get something back from ups. I had to beg the buyer to not throw out the packaging or else the claim wont go through and i would not pay him back.

The amp was ptp and miraculously still worked after but the tubes broke. I sold it after with the disclaimer of details and its sold as is.

Buyers: when a package comes and it looks beat take pics even before opening or if the courier person is there open it in front of them. If its broke, save ALL packaging. If a claim goes through the courier refunds the shipper so make sure the shipper refunds you.

Sellers: pack your stuff right. Take pics of the item before. Take pics of the item packed, take pics of the box right before shipping. Always insure it. Insurance usually has steps, ie insuring for $200 and 300 was the same for my last fedex so i just put max value.

THIS I learned from dealing with Amazon business and as a high volume
buyer JUST RECORD ALL OPENINGS, literally so simple, unless I am willing to lose the full value of what I ordered RECORD! Expedites everything, sometimes people won’t even ever view the video too but saying you have one stops all doubts/questions. Good stuff man

EXACTLY I always worry about resale price, some people LARP they care to justify the purchase… that packaging material often IS part of that value! You can’t keep everything but you have to be smart!

My final comments, a good buyer and seller will deal with each other honestly and fairly and should both take responsibility for their actions. My feedback for this seller was an A rating because despite the damages he not only took full responsibility but was forward thinking and issued a full refund with apologies and recommended some possible options above and beyond.
I will look at this as an opportunity to practice my own DIY skills

When things are good, everyone is great. It’s only when things go sideways that you know who you’re dealing with. Applicable to both seller and buyer.

And to top it all off, they shipped it in a box that says “O Well”.
