Happy owner of an Ares 2 DAC and I’m beginning to wonder it’s awesome sound stage is wasted on headphones.
I’ve noticed a similar issue with old r2r CD players I have. They sound awesome on speakers with a huge room filling sound stage and super coherent reverb that makes me think I might actually like Celin Dion gasp but if you hook them up to headphones their sound stage magic disapppears and you’re only left with a less resolving dac.
So in general for sub $1k dacs, is delta sigma they way to go for headphones? You don’t really get that r2r magic with them IMO.
