Thank you for your reply. I havenāt heard the amplifier yet but based on other impressions Iāve read about Iām surprised by most of the amps you have listed. I need to listen for myself I guess. Like youāve mentioned quite rightly synergy is important.
From a purely sound perspective balanced connection is over rated in my opinion. A well designed, single ended circuit will perform adequately. If itās a convenience or connectivity point of view I completely understand.
Also I think itās important to discuss which DAC pairing people are using as that can greatly effect ones opinion
Hey guys,
Iāve been looking into getting a headphone amp for my turntable and a DAC to pair it with for TV use. Iāve also been interested in getting a class A amp ever since seeing Zās review of this unit. Currently I have the JDS Labs El II stack with Sennheiser HD58X & Hifiman HE4xx at my desk. Does it make sense to get a separate DAC/AMP setup for my home theater setup or should I just use my stack for both my desk and TV setup?
Follow up question; would class A or Tube (or tube hybrid) be a better vinyl listening experience?
Iām not sure that such a stack could power speakers for a tv - unless maybe you meant something else? Personally, I like the rebel amp. But, someone else I know who tried it said that they thought it sounded far less detailed than a THX amp.
Oh this is for headphone listening, Iāll probably end up with an AV receiver when Iām ready to do my home theater setup
Does anyone know how to remove the volume knob on this amplifier? I see thereās a hole on the knob but I cannot tell what tool I need to remove it
Donāt have a Rebel Amp to check, my guess would be flat blade screwdriver.
Ok, Iāll give it a try and report back. Iāve tried allen keys in the past and that didnāt work
Example from something I have on hand:
There is a set screw in there. Depending on how the gorilla with a screwdriver felt, that may be screwed down way too hard.
Iām not having any luck. I tried a few different small sizes of philip and flat head screw drivers and the screw inside did not turn. It felt like the flat head wasnāt going into anything whereas it seemed like the philips end was going into the screw but couldnāt turn it. I also tried a small allen key I had laying around but that didnāt work either. I think Iāll email the company to see what they say
Some of the smaller ones are hex head, probably metric, donāt have a rebel amp to confirm.
Just to ensure: Righty tighty, lefty loosy.
Yeah lefty loosy but I also tried the other way and nothing turned
I emailed RebelAmp and they said: You need 1.5mm hex wrench to unscrew the knob
Got the knob off with the 1.5mm hex wrench. You can see the sticky residue in the picture which is why I wanted to remove the knob. I got some soda on it a while back but no harm was done other than making the knob a bit sticky.
I am curious about how hot will the rebelamp gets. Can you stack stuff on top of it?
It gets like warm definitely not hot like asgard. Not sure I would put something directly on it as venting holes are located there
When I used it I had an ADI-2 dac on top. It didnāt seem to make the amp get any warmer but I tried to put the dac on top of the amp where it felt like less heat was being generated. Plus the dac is smaller than the amp so the amp still had plenty of un blocked air holes
Congrats man for getting the Rebel Amp and the Empyrean!
