🔷 RebelAmp

I can’t believe you’d buy something based solely on one guys opinion.

From people who’ve had both, there about the same. That’s why I canceled my order. I don’t see the point in spending $300 more for no audible advantage.

Some people clearly hear a difference, and it is always good to support small start-ups

You don’t think people here make purchases based on Zeos reviews and impressions? Especially less mainstream hardware?

Yeah. Unimaginable. /s

In any case it was an alright amp but I flipped mine. On CAM. This is how a lot of people demo hardware.

I find it completely unimaginable and stupid for someone to make a purchasing decision solely on Z’s (or any reviewers) opinion of a product alone

Let’s be nice here, no reason to throw words like stupid around. One of the reasons I like this forum over some of the other ones is that this forum tends to be more laidback and easygoing and less judgmental and let’s please keep it that way.

Zeos has a lot of influence. (And for the record, he just posted a video about the Asgard 3 where he says the RebelAmp is much better, though he still likes the Asgard 3 for the price.)

Pretty sure Zeos was among the first to do a review / impressions video on the RebelAmp.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying equipment based on a reviewer’s impressions if the reviewer is one you trust and who’s opinion is similar to your own.

I’m sorry you have such a negative opinion on the subject but if Zeos is the only live review and it’s an amp who’s feature set meets your needs then I don’t think it’s stupid at all to make the purchase.

Especially if you know you can flip it on the secondary market.

You would be surprised then lol

full throttle all the time, always judgemental, no chill lol

Admittedly I’d somewhat agree that the rebel is the better amp in some aspects, but it’s not by a super large margin imo, and actually to me the asgard 3 feels a bit more mature sounding in voicing and presentation (but a bit less technically capable), but the rebel is still nice, but personally would rather have other options at the rebel’s price point (not the biggest fan of it).

In the end the only way to know if you will actually like something is to try it yourself, and that typically means buying it yourself for something like this. If you are ok with taking a bit of a hit in resale it typically works out fine

M0n what do you like at that price point?

Depends on the headphone and dac, personally I’m a bigger fan of things like the neve rnhp, lake people g111, little labs monotor, monolith liquid plat, the flux fa12s is a good alternative to the rebel that I prefer a bit more, you can find cayin iha-6 at this price point sometimes, and a few others that aren’t solid state. But all depends on the headphone and what sound you are actually after. I don’t think anyone who bought a rebelamp got a bad amp or anything, I’m personally not a fan of it in comparison to others, but it’s still enjoyable on it’s own

Glad you are liking your rebel, it is a pretty big upgrade from something like an atom or zen can :+1:

The Rnhp has like 300mW. Is it enough to power most headphones?

What is your opinion on the monolith liquid spark compared to ifi zen can, asgard 3 and jds atom etc?

Works well with most dynamic headphones and sensitive planar (like an lcd x for example), but the neve does struggle with harder to drive planar (and needs higher gain input for something like an 880 600 ohm but can drive them well if it gets that)

Not exactly the right thread, but personally the liquid spark is my favorite out of the 100 buck amps because imo it’s the most impressive when it comes to timbre, spatial recreation, and dynamics, but the tuning might not be exactly for everyone or every headphone. But the asgard is a definitive step up in quality from that imo. The zen can I’m not the biggest fan of, it’s nice but imo I’d rather have a spark

The dark gray / black looks nice, but I sure love that green on my desk, table, shelf, dresser (I keep moving it to places where I spend more time).

The monoprice 887 has much more weight and dynamics than the thx 789. Especially noticeable with my focal elex. Worth the difference in price.

Why would that be the case? Both are THX

Monoprice made 50 advancements to the 789. The most important i believe was using better op-amps.
The sound is noticeably richer in tone with better dynamics.
I believe its worth the additional cost if you are using very amp sensitive headphones.

Thanks for the info, but those “improvements” seem to make it cleaner and more boring, not richer

The liquid spark has great body and weight but i do find the highs a bit rough and not natural. Also bass not as clean as my other amps. Can get a bit heavy sounding at times. Does do a half decent job on my elex. Its a fun amp. For mini amps i find the Gashelli 2.5 to be fantastic on my 6xx. Very clean and dynamic.
BTW the liguid spark has the best volume dial feel of all my amps and never did i ever hear any scratchy noise coming from the potentiometer. Every thx amp that i had and returned had crappy potentiometers that became unbearable after 6 months. Im talking about 3 887’s and 1 789. Also
never had slightest problem with Geshelli 2.0 and 2.5 Potentiometers. They are great amps and a great company.
Just got Rebel and will set it up today with my elex. Hoping for that magic people talk about.
