I’m currently on the lookout for a set of IEMs ideally priced under £100 here in the UK, could stretch to £120 though.
These will primarily be used for commuting to and from work so not looking to break the bank on these.
I also would like to factor in some extra cost for a small portable DAC/AMP which could fit into my pocket and not be a hassle when travelling around, Any recommendations for this would be appreciated.
My preference leans towards neutral whilst retaining a decent punch/slam in the bass region.
for £100, take a look at the Eytmotic ER2 models. when you say you want a DAC / Amp, are you thinking something that is portable or something that sits on your desk on a more permanent basis? if you’re thinking of something portable? have you thought about a DAP? in any case, there are a plethora of portable DAC / Amp out there, but it’s important to know if you have an Android phone or an iPhone so compatibility is assured. you would run a USB / Lighting to USB cable to the combo unit ad the signal needs to be digital in order for the DAC to work. you could also consider a Bluetooth unit that you can clip to your shirt collar and run some short custom cables so you’re wired but won’t tangle up and have better freedom of movement.
Looking for something portable, this is going to be my second setup, I have my main system at home which consists of full sized headphones and DAC/AMP separates.
Haven’t really looked into DAPS, if you could offer any recommendations under £150 that would be great.
I did discover this little device which would be the kinda thing I’m looking for in terms of ergonomics:
utws5 by fiio. You basically transform your iem into tws. The drawback is that you are tired with one connector type only
fiio btr5. A very competent portable BT dac-amp, with a tad of brightness
qudelix 5k. The successor of radsone es100. The most complete BT dac-amp you can find. Powerful and clean. The app is great, you can even play with a parametric EQ built in!!
