Revamping the setup - Suggestions needed!

Been rocking my ifi iDSD micro mini black label “portable” brick for a desktop amp for a while now, with a pair of TH-XOO’s plugged into them. (( Fantabulous use of that 4 watts per channel output, I know. )) But, the cans were starting to get a little long in the tooth, amp is starting to act up, and I kinda want a fresh setup.

As for what sound sig I like, I dunno if I could honestly bring myself to steer away from the X00’s. The detail, the imaging, the BASS. Despite them already being bass cannons, I could never turn off the X-Bass for more than a few minutes. I swear that’s audio heroin right there. If I had to nitpick, the soundstage was a bit narrow. I could probably be okay with giving up a little detail for that.

What do I do with my headphones? Game. Not really into competitive shooters, though. So I honestly couldn’t care less about SUPER MEGA ULTRA MLG PRO treble response.

I also kinda want to dabble in balanced, because why not spend even more money on pretty noises? I was thinking about an ifi Zen stack, or maybe just the Zen Can for that all in one experience. Dunno yet. Though I am open to suggestions on other dac/amps. I’m mainly kinda clueless on what headphones I want to dive into.

So, music is not a concern here?
You’d like super-bassy and atmospheric, dark headphones?
Not my world entirely, but I wonder if you could find some Audioquest Nighthawks?

What is your budget? Off the top of my head you could have a nice stack with say schiit mag/modi stack. Throw a lokius in there to have full control, keep that bass you enjoy and not break the bank doing it.
Headphones I’d look at would be Nighthawks, cascades and ZMF offerings or if you feel adventurous and what to get into planars the Audeze LCD2CB would be a great compliment to your Fostex.

I’m looking for a straight-up replacement for the X00’s, one of the yoke’s straight up fell off the headband, and I don’t have the gumption to track down replacement hardware. Assuming the hole hasn’t been wallowed out by lose fittings. (( In hindsight I should have mentioned this in the original post. )) I’ve got a pair of M560’s that I’ve been running as a backup, however.

The Nighthawks look super interesting, not going to lie I don’t know how I feel about rocking something with such a unique sound sig for a daily driver, though. Same with the ZMF offerings and the LCD2CB’s. Look super interesting, but I don’t know how I feel about dropping a grand or more on a pair of headphones. I’d like to stay around $500, with flexibility up to around $700 for something exceptional. Though I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted to buy a new pair of X00’s.

… Evidently I was looking at the 600’s, and I retract my previous statement. Thank you, lol
